Default jdm dc 4-1

I'm about to be purchasing a header and the jdm dc is the main one i'm looking at. I'm not trying to spend over 400 dollars, due to the fact i don't make much money. For those of you that have this header how do u like it?
Nice hp gains?, should i go stainless over ceramic if so why?, and if possible some dyno charts. I appreciate any info and suggestions thanx.
oh yeah ihave 98 R w/ aem cold air, apex ni catback, ctr pistons, act stage 3 clutch.
thanx

JDM DC 4-1 and JDM Honda 4-1 are very good 'bang for the buck' headers.

The DC hangs a bit low, about 3/4" lower than the oil pan on my car.
If your car is lowered, this may be a concern.

JDM Honda 4-1 has just about perfect fitment.

He's asking about the JDM DC 4-1 primarily, at least that is what the title says.

I was simply comparing them, as they are close in performance and price but not in fitment.

So in comparing the DC JDM 4-1 to the JDM OEM 4-1 would it be safe to say:

DC JDM 4-1 -cheaper, no welds *disrupting* flow, hangs low, no skidplates/heatshields available, available in mild steel (ceramic coated) and SS versions.

JDM OEM 4-1-more expensive, welds *may disrupt* flow (*but can be modified), skidplates and OEM heatshields avaiable. Stainless Steel construction. Better fitment than DC JDM 4-1.

Any other opinions or comments on either one of these?

I will say I recently installed a DC JDM 4-1 header on my 00 B18C5....fitment left much to be desired although I did notice quite an improvement in flow up top over the DC 4-2-1 2" collector header I had in before.

The sound is different as well....cant say whether I like it or not but its throaty.

For some reason the one I purchased had a flange that wouldnt line up with the mounting bolts and would rub the oil pan....flange had to go.

But I only paid $140 for a used ceramic version.

If I planned to buy one header and never think about it again I would look into a nice Ericks Racing header or SMSP, AN-R, Hytech etc...

I am only using this header because I am on stock cams and I am under 190whp.

When I upgrade the valvetrain and internals the header will need to be replaced with a better one....so I tried to minimize the cost of the current setup as much as possible.

I wouldnt reccomend a stainless DC JDM unit unless the price was around 220-250 at 350+ You might as well step up to a SMSP type header. But thats just my opinion

i just got one last weekend and installed it sunday..its a pretty good piece fitment is ok but the bracket under the oil pan dosnt line up that good other than that the welds look great there are no welds inside and the collector needs to be deburred before you put a donut gasket on it

Although I do not have a 'before' (i.e., stock header) dyno graph, I can tell you that I gained 6whp and 3.5 tq (peak numbers) and gained good hp/tq area under the curve from ~4K and up, all the way to fuel cutoff. It was a night and day difference over the stock header. Very highly recommended, very good value.

The clearance issue has not been a problem but once, and that was mostly my fault.

Spoon, Toda, Smsp, ex. are going to cost double that $400.00 amount. I'd go with the JDM 4-1 OEM because you can use a heat sheild and fits like a glove.

JDM OEM 4-1-more expensive, welds restrict flow (*but can be modified),
I had a Toda header and a JDM 4-1 non ported and they both put out the same exact power in vtec. I question the "welds restrict airflow" theory.

Probably one of those things that looks like it would work on paper but really doesn't make a difference.

But any dynos showing ported vs non-ported JDM ITR header?

I am with MPH on this theory also. I want to see some dyno results. I have no idea how this would be possible but..I wanna see proof.

I should probably rephrase that and say that the welds *may* disrupt, not restrict airflow, sorry.
Since the welds differ on each header, the effects of this may be very negilgible.

I like mine alot for the price. Took me from a 14.0@99.35mph (stock manifold) to a 13.7@100.43mph with no other mods. It does hang a little low but I haven't had any problems with it yet since I am still at stock ride height.

Oh and go with the SS. It seems like the Ceramic are prone to cracking often enough to shell out a few more bucks IMO.
