I wanted to get a set of 17" rims but I was asking myself what the benefit would be. I see that you can get 15” 16” and 17” in 7” wide so that is not a big deal. The only thing I could think of would be the weight and the sidewall height. Any opinions???
i kept the wheels at 15'as on the R becuase its a race car, i have no need to bling with it and it handles like its on rails so dont need the bigger wheels to "handle better"
on the Si i put 17's on it for the bling factor, it will be raced too, but not as seriously as the R is . . . . . bigger wheels equal slower if you havent found that out already
it personal preferenc in what your looking for.

Would 16" be the best compromise? I also want good handling along with not too much power loss.
It all depends on the tire choice also, R compounds on 15's have stiff sidewalls,
I chose 17's on the teg for the street, and 15 x7's for the track, the weight and well, you can have a bling factor when racing, look at touring car's but 16's would be fine.

- Less sidewall height equals less flexing.
- If you have the money, go for forged rims
generally, they are lighter than cast steel.
Here's the comparison chart -

My daily driving rims are 18" b/c I love how they take up the entire wheel well w/o the tire being huge, but I still have my 98 GSR rims w/ good race tires on them for serious racing.

I'd like to get 16's but I don't see the real worth of spending the money on stuff that won't make me faster. I much rather use the extra on a set of road racing tires for the track. (this is coming from someone that doesn't have the money to buy rims! hehe!)
I have 16's and I think I am switching back to 15's. One reason being weight another the falken azenis is offered in better sizes for 15" than 16", I heard the 215 rubs..Another is that it saves you alot of $$ on tires..anybody want to buy my 16"s??
Well, it depends on your tire/wheel ratio. It could effect your final drive ratio. Add or lessen unsprung weight. Even, tweak-out(f***up) your suspension geometry-of course not to a great measure for a street-driven car, but if your racing....BTW stiffer sidewalls can reduced tire deformation is most cases, but if that stiffer sidewall does you'll have fun controlling it through the rest of the curve. Almost forgot, steering ratio may be different. Though, if you maintain the same overall circumference then some may not apply. I prefer the 15"s-light weight and affordable. Keep in mind many of the short sidewall tires perform best on even surfaces and some may not handle as good on uneven surfaces. Also, tires composition will determine the "softness" of the tire. Some manufactorers build their high performance tire with a hard composition(to deal with street driving) but the shorter sidewall should have a softer composition to handle at its best.
smaller rims = less weight = faster car. bigger rims = nicer looking car = slightly slower.
Better traction = Better Launch

Saving 10-15 lbs is not going to make you faster, it'll give you better traction.

What would make sence to me is that with a lighter rim, your engine has less weight to turn around giving you just a little bit better performance.
