Default Lightining a Flywheel

I am looking for someone who has good specs on lightining a 93 ls fly wheel, I have a machianist who will do it for me but he wants to do it right so he wont hurt my car in the process. So if there are any good links out there that you guys know of post it here.

Whenever I do a clutch replacement on any Honda, I take the flywheel to a machine shop and take about 5 lbs off the back side. On the back side, there is a thick outer weight ring area that you can simply turn down. Don't take it all the way off but most of it. The stock flywheels are about 18 lbs. and the Honda does not need that much. If it is a street car, you don't want to take too much off or it will make the street manners when pulling away from a stoplight not very good. Take 1/4 to 1/3 max weight off the back and you'll be amazed how much in really zings the car up. I have never had to have one balanced afterward and had a few to 7500 rpm in racecars. Just make sure that the machinist chucks it squarely in the lathe. Seems like it usually costs about $80. If you take much more weight off, it will require slipping the clutch more and make it harded to drive. I've done it to 5 or 6 CRXs and Civics in the last 10+ years. It doesn't costs that much and the car really wakes up. If you need to replace the clutch anyway, this is a good thing to do automatically.

You could also try a Type-R flywheel. The Type-R has a factory lightened flywheel that weighs about 11 pounds. I am not sure what they cost. Check with your local Acure dealership. Or try to find one used.
