Default Tachometer Question

A friend of mine is in the process of installing a tachometer. He has everything, but the green wire hooked in. The instruction manual says to connect it to the negative side of the ignition. He said it's too hard to connect it there. Is there anywhere else that it can be hooked up? Thanks.

Actually, he doesn't have a shift light. He got one without it because he has an automatic. The main reason he got it was to see the RPMs, and then adjust other things. It's just a simple 3 wire tachometer.

Get a probe, it makes it a lot easier.
