I spent a little time researching rear break swaps in the archives, but most of what I could find was on DXs or Hatches. I know that the 88 HF had a the similar rear suspension to the ITR, and also has no rear swaybar.
I would like to know what is involved in installing rear discs (yes I know the breaking power gains are minimal) and installing a rear swaybar. I m am not sure if the procedure is the same for the 88 HF, as it is for the later model CRXs.

i'm not totally sure but i think it is only the 88 CRX Si with the different rear suspension. as for the rear discs i wouldn't worry about em.
and for the rear sway bar, i don't think the HF's had control arms with holes to mount the sway bar, so you might have to get Si control arms.

I love my 88's rear suspension, it seems a bit more nimble in the corners than my 91 si. The HF's front sway is tiny and having no rear bar's is def. a hinderence. With a good aftermarket sway bar setup or even stock Si bar's you'd notice a good improvement in handling. DON'T put those damned rear disks on there. The money you'll/he'll spend on that useless conversion could net you some sway bars. The breaking power isn't improved any over the stock drum setup, unless you got with an oversized disc/caliper setup ontop of the conversion.
If you want better stopping power upgrade the front brakes to 90-91 Ex spec 10.3" rotors and calipers. Or hit up REX VT he's got a massive set of front brakes on his Euro spec VTi, like 11" rotors with twin piston calipers ~ all from stock Honda/Acura parts.

So what about the rear swaybar, can an aftermarket rear swaybar be purchased and instaled without major modafications??

A sway bar kit from suspension techniques would be the ticket. Don't put just an aftermarket rear and not upgrade the front. The tiny 17mm sway on the front of the HF, would make the car very unbalanced handling-wise. It'll most likely have the tedancy to want to understeer.
I have a friend who has put a suspension techniques rear sway bar for a 89-91 on his 88 crx, so it has been done.
I thin you just have to play with the braket that bolts to the same bolt as the shock on the lca. Maybe you'll have to do a trip or two to Home depot that's it.
There is also a 88 sus tech rear sway bar from Ground control, but it is not the same price than the 89-91 one.

with the 88's you need the ST adapter kit. I just got the rear bar and adapter kit for my car. Should have it installled soon. I can take pics of the kit if you would like.
