I have a set of custom ground cams from Colt Cams.

http://www.coltcams.com

I'm very happy with them. Specs are slightly more aggressive than 403's. (More lift, similar duration).

How much did it cost for the regrinds? Did you have to send them stock cams?

Yes, I sent my cores and he re-ground them to his specs. Email geoff@coltcams.com with any questions you have, he's a great guy and he would be more than happy to help out. BTW, they are located in BC, Canada.

What kind of redline are you looking for. As far as I know the 403's are only good up to under 8000rpm. If that's the case the tit retainers and double v-springs won't be necessary. JG has alun retainers for $90 and silcon steel v-springs for $130. For this cost your can send your head to them and get a valve-job done for the for the same cost as the prior. And remember port-n-polish is only an extra 300bones.

I would like to have a redline about 8000. How about JUN cams? So if i wanted to I could probably go with the crower 403's and not even have to upgrade the valvetrain?....yet.

You know I've been reviewing some selections for cams, also. I have a 90LS. Crane Cams makes some good cams, too. But, if you look closely at the specs there's two cams I think I would prefer over the Comp's. I don't remember the model#'s or the specs-off the top of my head. The Crane's had a great duration cycle, in-between the two lower end Comps, yet slightly more lift. I'm looking at a mild to moderate N/A setup and will not spend too much time past 7500rpm's, so aggressive overlap is not in my list. Just food for thought. Of course dyno-tuning will only be the right means to decide whether my chose would be right.

Well, at 8000rpm, I would recommend it. The JG valvetrain set is good for 8500rpms. It's a great value, IMHO.

from Crower's website

62401 = 7000+ redline
62402 = 7500+ redline
62403 = 8000+ redline
62404 = 8200+ redline
62405 = 8500+ redline

FYI guys if you are going to be revving an LS to 8000 rpm on a regular basis you might want to look into some bottom end upgrades as well.

Valvetrain alone won't cut it.
