vtec switch at wot
ok im in a quandry. My civic DX is switching in to VTEC at WOT is this a bad thing? i was told that it cant be good becouse i could be loosing torque. is this possible? The way they (i just bought the car) did it is with a micro switch connected to vtec selonoid. They then attached this to the throttle body and whenever you floor it the throttle body comes over and hits the switch to turn on vtec could i realy be loosing power? I think they did this so they could keep the stock ecu couse it still had a stock DX ecu when i got it then i put in a P28 and boom a check engine light came on. weird i know but these are the problems we face when we get a car thats been worked on. Thanx in advance
I am going to assume that u have swapped motor. It is not good for vtec to be activated at low rpm because the cams' lift and duration is changed for more air to enter, as in high rpms. My friend had the same setup as you and he was slow as ***** until he learned not to floor it until 4000 or so. The new ecu is flashing a code because it does not see the vtec solenoid. You somehow need to get the solenoid hooked up to the ecu so it will engage it automatically.
even better, buy an MSD RPM switch, I beleive they come in 100RPM incriments, buy one for 4800 rpm's, wire it up, and BAM. Correctly working vtec- less than $50!
