Default front bearings and suealing questions...

I just got an '85 CReX HF. My problem is, when I turn right theres a loud squealing sound that I think is coming from the left front. It sounds like metal on metal. Could this be the bearings? They're pressed right? I'm about to drive this car from TN to Cali in a week. I'd apreciate any insight to this.

jack up the car so the left front wheel is off the ground, and spin that wheel, if it makes a "growling" type noise, the bearing is bad, but it does sound like the bearing.. also check the cv joints while you're at it

The boot is ripped on the left cv and the grease looks burnt. Do I have to replace it or can I clean it with kerosene? The left bearing makes a rumbling noise when I turn it without the wheel. The right one sounds metalic so I guess its gotta come out. Are the bearings pressed? Thanks for the reply.
