I just got this crx and have been trying to diagnose the problem. I feels as though the car is choking and is sputters and backfires. The check engine light will come on but then go off and come back on( light doesnt always come on, seems when driving for like 15 minutes or longer) The thing is, it doesnt throw any codes. The ecu is blank. What's the deal?? anyone have any ideas

I did an oil change, changed the plugs, adjusted the valves( they were noisey)
also - when i took the valve cover off do adjust the valves i noticed there was oil leaking down all over the plugs i know i need new valve cover gaskets. I cleaned out the oil but it's probably leaking down again. could that be it...
if oil is leaking down there could that cause it to burn oil and blow smoke or is that another problem all together

does the car idle smoothly? might be the plug wire order on the distributor. what are the compression numbers?
