Default d15b7 ticking, smoking, and "missing" sounds like?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Ok i've got a couple of questions.... Just recently my wifes car started acting up..... She has a sohc non vtec motor and the valves started ticking a little bit also her idle sounded like it was missing.... and the last problem is after i adjusted the valves or maybe before, I don't know it smoked a little bit under the hood (just for a short while then stopped) I guess my questions are what are the possible problems for the missing situation, ticking sounds, and some kinna smoke..... oh and when i checked the spark plugs the # 1&2 were fine and the #3&4 had oil on the treads and a little above the treads.... but the ceramic thing and the hook thing were fine also..... i'm stuck...

ok, the oil was probably burning from oil driping down after you took off the valve cover. No biggie as long as it's not doing it now. As far as oil on the plugs, it is probably the seal between the valve cover and the tube you slide the plugs down. That can sometimes go bad, really cheap to replace. Did you adjust the lash when the engine was as cold as possible? If you did it whe it's still warm, chances are it's off, and that's why it's ticking. Go back in the and check the gaps and see if theyre still to specs and adjust as needed. Hmm, Oh, the missing. Take a timing light to each plug wire and see if it's firing. If not, narrow it down further from there.

Edit- I highly doubt you're only running on 3 cylinders, cause you would notice a huge difference.

i've been doing a little more research on it and the "missing sound isn't the spark plugs or wires" it's either the valves or the piston ring.... i did a compression test on the motor and in the #1 cyl. it was 75 psi and in 2,3,4 they were 200,205,and 215.... so the #1 cyl. is causing it to lope.... and the valves i'm sure they are still just out of spec.... and i did it when it was freezing outside and the car had been sitting for a couple of hours. so i don't know... we might just build the single in her car now or buy another one or just do a swap we arn't sure yet....

deffinately find what's causing the compression loss. First I would go back and check the valve lash. A kid I know was missing in one cylinder and it was caused by improper valve adjustment. I readjusted them and the problem is fixed. Who knows, maybe one of the valves is staying open enough to lose compression. Does it sound like that? Or does it just seem like bad rings?

honestly i'm not sure if it sounds like a valve or rings.... i think i might take it into honda and have them adjust the valves..... and we'll see i guess but if that doesn't fix it then we might just end up doing a motor swap anyway....

put nos on it....run it till it blows then find a cheap sohc vtec swap....then hook it up!

oil is from gromets that are leaking on valve cover....

ticking is valves

missing is maybe bad spark plugs, wires, distributor (possibly the bolt in the rotor has come lose)

readjust the valves...
