Default D16A6 Died on me... What swap should i get within a reasonable budget?

I need to swap in a new motor and i want to turbo it but im still undecided on what to swap in, weather a ZC swap with tranny or a SOHC Vtec using my old Si tranny which grinds in 3rd gear very little.

Help me out

go with the complete Y8 motor swap and use your Si trans. it should last for a pretty long time.

First question for you that we need to know:

What's your budget looking like?

I mean how much money will you allow yourself to spend on this swap?

My own personal opinion?

I'd take a D16Z6, SOHC VTEC ZC, or a D16Y8 motor over a ZC.

Why?

Well they all make about the same power, but the SOHC VTEC motors have much more aftermarket support for them and when you go to do servicing you won't have to sort through various 1988-1991 Prelude, 1986-1989 Integra, and 1988-1991 Civic parts.

Try finding ZC parts - it's hard. Cams are pretty much non-existant these days, and they are hella expensive even if you find some.

A SOHC VTEC with a nice cam in it would be bad as hell. Hell I'm thinking that even stock a nice SOHC VTEC motor would be as quick or even quicer than a ZC.

The only thing that makes the VTEC swap a little more challenging is the wiring and choice of ECU. I'm not the EF expert but I'm pretty sure that ZDYNE makes a good ECU conversion to run a P28 ECU or add VTEC to your Si ECU.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong - the 1992-1995 Civic is my area of expertise.

*EDIT* - thanks to Sirex

I'd go SOHC VTEC and still try to get a new tranny. I'd say get a 1988-1991 Si final drive and drop it in a ZC case with the shorter ZC 1-5 gears because that will be the baddest-*** shortest possible gearing for your car.

Anyone else?

Nope, you summed it up. Go with the D16z6.

actually you would want to use a zc tranny 1-5 and a SI final drive. got them backwards there.

My bad.

It's been a while since I've went through the D-Series stuff.

Thanks for the clarification.

ya dont bother with the DOHC ZC. if you dont want to do the z6 conversion, just build up the d16a6.. get another complete motor with ttrans they arent that much. less than $500.00

z6 turbo. there was a post back by abaz and his friend made like 180whp and 185lb-ft of torque on a stock motor. i forgot how much boost though, but it wasn't over 12psi.

rebuild your A6 & tranny, that way you know you have new parts you can trust, not just another high milage engine that could blow up any day again!!

damm guys, im poor but not that poor, reason its hard on cash is cuz i own a 2001 vw gti and have full cover on both cars... i have enuff for a sohc vtec motor i can spend about 2 grand from now till april or so. i dont want to do b16 jdm cuz they are just so old and anything more powerfull than that is to much, i rather get the best bolt on to my current mounts and well D16Y8 seems to be my best bet so far. plus id force induct it anyway with a zdyne gold secu and 450cc's.
