1 - Anyone know how much installation would be (with a flywheel)?

2 - Heard there is a six month wait for them......true?

Installation on the final drive alone will be around 4-500 with acura. My suggestion is buy a helms manual and do it all yourself. The flywheel stuff is not hard either.

Six month wait? Why would someone make a buyer wait six months on something like that? Even if you were buying one from japan, it shouldn't take more than two weeks to get here at the most. There's plenty of them to go around here in america. I suggest the classifieds here on honda-tech. Once you get hooked to finding stuff here on H-T, you never go anywhere else. And really, you can find almost ANYTHING here on the classifieds. I bet there are a few people getting rid of 4.78 FD's on h-t.

 

you honestly suggest someone who can barely do their own oil changes rip apart an entire tranny? I don't trust myself with powertools......lol......don't think I'll be touching my car.

I'd have to agree that his suggestion is a good one. With a helms and some patience, you can do the majority of work on your car yourself. It definately beats basically doubling the price of the parts you are buying to include the price of installation, plus you know that it was done correctly. Think of it this way: If you do the install yourself, it's almost like you're getting that flywheel for free .

 

There are several places where you can get the 4.785 fd imidiately, i have been looking around at the prices everywhere on them, its really hard to find a good deal on one. They are basically the same price no matter where you go. All around $700 canadian. I am going to do my final drive instal with a friend and a helms manual in my cold *** garage.

 

Yep. I've done it.. It's not hard.

Get yourself a helms service manual (which is the best investment you could possibly do for your car), and it will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know...

 

And, you can now tear it back apart should something go wrong!

Trying the install yourself would be good if the car is not your daily driver and you can fool around with it for awhile. But I don't know if I would say "it's not hard" because removing the tranny, taking the tranny apart, changing the 1st gear, countershaft, ring gear, collar, etc. is pretty damn hard to most people's standards that haven't done stuff like that before. Didn't sackdz try it himself and ended up locking his driveshaft or something? Not fun, especially if you actually need to use the car to get to work or something the next day.

Try it yourself and take your time if you have a spare car, but I don't think I'd try it for the first time on a daily driver just in case something does go wrong. All it takes is a messed up bolt or one forgotten step to really create a bad situation.

 

send the tranny to FL with some cash and we'll do the FD

 

$700 is the price I got too, and $600 for a spoon flywheel, with an installation price of $450 for a grand total of:

$1750 + 15% tax

wow!!!!

guys please tell me its worth it and I'm not crazy!

p.s. don't think I will go through with the self installation cuz I don't really trust myself, and I'd be there FOREVER!!!!
