Default build gsr or type-r swap??

Should I get a b18c-r or build a gsr? I want to have about 200-210 whp. If I buy the b18c-r wouldnt I have to add more mods to acheive this goal?

With a gsr I would be putting type-r pistons with total rebuild of block ($1150 w/block). I would have a fully built head for about $1700(supplied head) and a type-r tranny for $1200. This would cost me less for everything with my calculations than a type-r swap.
So which would you go with? Considering I dont need a complete swap, just complete motor. spending $4050 for gsr vs $4300-4000 for b18c-r Also is the b18c-r block engineered better than the gsr block w/type-r pistons?

well this all depends on what you want, all motor, turbo later, or whatever, i'm assuming though you want all motor, if so, if your building the block, why would you put type r pistons in, why not 12:1 crowers, higher comp. than the c5, not that the c5 internals aren't good, but might as well go all out if your building from the bottom up

Are you going all motor or are you boosting? If it's all motor, get the b18 R spec, it's not worth getting an GSR block to build up to R specs, you'll actually end up spending more (including LSD). For boost purposes, I'd start with a GSR block. Good luck.

why not a gsr with ctr pistons, should be around 12:1 comp. with tuning u can run it with 92 pump gas.

why? arent you starting with 0 miles with rebuilt engine. Wouldnt a rebuilt engine last longer than an engine that has been imported from japan with 15K-20K miles?

It all depends on how much you plan to replace. Consider the advantages of the ITR over the GSR:

1. Higher compression ratio
2. Mildly ported head from the factory
3. Better cams and valvegear
4. More aggressive ECU
5. Better intake manifold and bigger throttle body
6. Lightened flywheel (11 pounds)

Now if you just want to have all this stuff on a GSR motor, the Type-R motor is the better deal. It would cost you MUCH more than the price difference between the two motors to make all these upgrades to a GSR motor. Things start to get fuzzier when you start upgrading things that are already upgraded on the Type-R. In some cases, it is still better to go with the Type-R. For instance, if you want better cams than the Type-R (but with no other upgrades) or a 2.0 liter Type-R (also with no other upgrades compared to a stock Type-R), the ITR is still cheaper than buying a GSR and making the necessary upgrades. On the other hand, if you are going to upgrade most to all of the Type-R upgrades, the GSR is the better deal.

rebuilt motors always perform worst than OE motors in both reliability and power delivery (same build), unless you pay an arm and 3 legs to have it professionally built and tuned by a well known tuner. By then your money would equal out to buying a used R motor.
