Default 91 Accord tach/stall problem

I have a '91 Accord that had the main relay replaced about 2 months ago. This was because of the common problem I've seen on this board about the car having problems starting in hot weather. It seems to have fixed that problem. However, I have just developed a new problem. The car starts fine (always), but after about 5 - 8 minutes of driving it, the tach strts going whacky. It jumps around wildly, even redlining several times. Its just the tach, the engine is not doing this jumping around. After the tach goes whacky for about a minute, the car eventually shuts off. I have to coast to the side of the road, wait a bit, (the car wont start right back up) but then it will eventually restart. Once I'm under way again, no more problems with any of it on that particular trip. However, every time a start a new trip the problem happens. I checked with the dealer on the distributor recall with my VIN number. He said it was replaced in 2000. Any ideas?

sounds to me like a distributor something of this nauture..something is gettin hot or short circuiting cause this to happen...cause once it gets hot it shuts off - you might want to check all your ignition, and check the relay you put in make sure its good and not defective...back track..think..

Well when my tach would go crazy my car wouldn't turn over at all. I would sit there and get mad and I would watch it and the key would be turn to where the dash lights up but they wouldn't light up. Then eventually it would light up then I would let it sit there and then I would try and turn it over then sometimes it would. The problem was the battery. I know that sounds funny but the battery went wacko on me and it would make the seat belts move back and forth then they would lock up and the tach would like start jumping and going past redline when I was just sitting there and the speedometer would top out and stuff...check your battery basically...

First things first. Is your check engine light on? Next ... remove the cap on the distributor and see if it has a rusty colored dust inside of it. If you do see this ... you will need to replace the distributor. Little hard to try to diagnose this over the internet ... but this could be your problem.
