I just got a 92 Civic EX Coupe with a stock d16 z6. I want to put in a b16a2. Im just concerned about the legality issues and me passing inspection. By the way I live in new york.

If I buy a JDM motor will it be legal and will it pass inspection?

Also, with the swap can I use the stock tranny and axles or do I have to do a complete swap?

You need to check with your laws. They are different from state to state. Most places require the eninge to be the chassis year or newer, have proper emissions equpment and pass emissions test like any normal car. I think only CA has a visual inspection but even some JDM motors are getting smogged now.

You will need a complete swap: Motor, Tranny, ECU, Axles, Shift linkage, and other misc. parts

 

I didn't think thay made an EX coupe in '92. I thought it was '92-95 hatches and '93-95 coupes. If so that is one rare car.
