Prepping your car yourself.. and fixing surface rust.
I want to get my car painted soon.. a 90 Integra RS, silver.. It has some surface rust around the keyhole and drivers side door.
I heard that if you prep the car yourself, you can save alot of money when getting it painted.
Does anyone have any website or DIY webpage that has articles about fixing rust/ surface rust/ and doing your own body work?
Thanks

Basically if you have any surface rust you must sand all teh way to bare metal. Then primer the formerly rusted spots. There really is a lot of work that goes into prepping it. I would suggeset going to your local paint/supply store and asking them what grit sand paper to use, primer, etc. They will be a lot more h elp.
if the rust is minor you can just use 80 grit sand paper remove it, then move to 180, then primer and 400 wet and 600
but if its deeper use grinder
then tiny bit of filler to fill deep scratches. Works great.
To prep your car, sand it with 400 wet, then 600 wet, and 800 wet if you want.
