Sell civic then proceed as follows.

1. Buy any LS1 equipped Z28.
2. Intake
3. Headers
4. Lightened pulley
5. High stall torque converter
6. Set of slicks
7. Run low 12's/ high 11's all day everyday with less than $3000 in mods.

If you have not already done so, do the basic bolt-ons. The stock airbox and exhaust are very restrictive even for a D16A6. They are even worse for a B16A. So get rid of them. A header can help, too. All DOHC VTEC motors respond well to cams. Type-R cams are a good, reliable, and relatively low cost choice. But you can also go for something more wild. Don't forget to upgrade your springs! After cams, you can go for a Type-R or other intake manifold and throttle body. And you can port your head. And let's not forget fuel management mods and proper tuning. If all of this is not enough, you do bottom end mods to your B16A block to increase compression. Or you can increase displacement using a B18C block, prehaps sleeved to 85mm. You can get even more displacement if you spend big bucks and go with the Dart block.

best way to make more hp/tq is to swap the block for a b18c

if its horsepower you wanna make then continue with the b16a block, bigger bore and much higher compression pistons, with that stroke you can get away with 13.5:1 compression ... it will lack the TQ of the 1.8 liters but will make awesome horsepower/high-rpm TQ.

You need excellent headers, ecu and cams ... compression is the most important though, then header then ecu ... in that order. If you need help with those things, come talk to me via PM I've built many high-HP b16a motors in my day and totally like them.

Why even post that? If you can't answer the question, don't reply.

If your going bolt-ons:

Throttle Body:

B-series DOHC VTEC engines:

1st gen. B16a: 58mm

2nd gen. B16a: 60mm

B17a (USDM): 60mm

B18c: 60mm

B18c (Spec R): 62mm

B16b: 62mm

Spoon: 70mm OD tappered to 62mm ID

Intake manifold:

Differences of the Type R intake manifold:

- bigger plenum
- plenum sits lower which enables the intake charge a more direct path to the intake ports
- shorter and fatter runners = top end power

Cams:

CTR cams (Great mid-range power!)

Skunk2

Most info from lyonel.8m.com - he has good info for the 1st generation B16.

wtf is this?
You can spend all your money on bolt ons, or you can increase the
displacement which will make more hp and torque than all the bolt
ons combined with one single piece. Not only that but it will leave
you in a better position to do more in the future since the b18c has
far more potential than the b16a does.

As for what you suggested, TB will show little to no gain. Stock is properly
sized even with most modifications. the ITR manifold might show a small gain
up top but will also be accompanied by a loss in the midrange and ANY loss
in the powerband in a b16a is bad.

LOL - I'm sorry, but for whatever reason, that's one of the funniest things I've read in a while. "wtf is this?" - classic

Please excuse me sgT... I miss understood your post, I thought you said, don't get a b16 get b18c engine!

Like the person that said get the LSI Z28, I thought you were being a jerk like him... My bad...

Anyway, do you know the numbers that can come from this block swap - I'm now very curious? TIA

average wheel power numbers from a b16a are like 100-110/90-100 or there abouts.
for a b18c block with a b16a head, 140-160/110-120

100-110WHP from a B16A is low. Normal is more like 130-150WHP.
