Wondering if any one knows of a FI Cam for a D16a6 perferably one that some with a strenthened valve train. Anyone have an opinion on em or are they using one perhaps??? Be nice to make power up to 8000rpm
Only way I know of to make power to 8000 RPM is to add some duration to the lobes, which basically counteracts the effects of the turbo.

Good point, but on a DOHC motor you can throw on some adjustable cam gears to tune out the duration. On a SOHC motor, the intake and exhaust can't be independently tuned.
So unfortunately there's no happy medium I've heard of.
Now I'm not saying there might not be good FI cams for SOHCs out there, but you can forget making power to 8000 RPM unless you want to lose it on bottom.

Well, yes, high lift but that won't help much at 8k...you'd still need the duration. Most FI cams I have seen are designed to increase power within the powerband, not extend the powerband. SOHCs just don't make power to that RPM. At least I haven't seen any that do (without a lumpy cam)..
This is sorta off topic, but are there any d16z6 turbo cams out there that work as promised? I have been eyeing the crower turbo cam, but i have no experience with sohc engines. I am putting together a built d16z6 for my GF's car.

Hey I checked out the Crane Cam sight heres the specs for there turbo cam, it does extend the redline out to 7500, which is not bad, espeacially since it only restricts power at below (1500rpm well thats how I read it anyway)
Features our unique "split duration" lobe profile design (exhaust duration is less than intake duration)
"Spools" turbo faster for quicker boost and response
Reduces turbo lag time
Strong upper mid to top end with turbo applied
Use low restriction exhaust and air intake system
Use new stock springs
RPM range 1,500-7,500
Grind Number Part Number
HON-261-2SR-10 251-0014
Advertised Duration
Int/Exh Duration @ .050
Int/Exh Lobe Separation Gross Lift
232/228 206/202 110 394/376

??? Anyone else with something to add?

I don't know about the A6 but my Y8 head/Y7 block mutt made power to 7500 RPM with the stock cam, so maybe try one of those
Here's the final dyno for my SOHC. We stopped at 7000 but it pulled hard up to 7500. Also, that's right around the RPM limit for my ECU, so I didn't want to bump up against that thing!

How much boost were you running?
What size turbo where you using? I am shooting for 250whp on 10psi with the d16z6 i am building up. I am going with 10.5:1 compression, and a ported head, skunk2 intake manifold and a good turbo cam which i havent decided yet (springs, retainers to with the cam). Tuning will be done via Hondata with 680cc injectors and walboro pump. I am using the 57 trim t3/to4e with the .48a/r exhaust. On 10psi i should be right in the heart of efficiency of that compressor map. I dunno, I have never seen strong numbers from d motors. I am hoping with the porting, upped compression, cam and larger turbo that i can meet my goal.

Hmm my JDM D16a6 or zc sohc runns out cam at 6800rpm, from then it just drops off... I wonder whether a Y8 cam would go into a A6??? Whats the stock redline for the D16y8?? Nice numbers BTW for only 9psi, you have a bored out inlet manifold don't you?

Yes, I had a ported head and intake, but stock '00 Si tb (originally ran a BBK 62mm but it was garbage).
Personally I would try Competition Cams. Those, Ford Motorsport, and Mopar were the best 3 brands of aftermarket cams I ever used with domestics.
With more compression and 1 PSI more boost on a very similar turbo (might be the same, I'm not sure on the exact specs, only that it's a t3/t04e) I'd imagine you could get close to 250 with Hondata. I didn't know Skunk2 made an SOHC manifold though?
Also, I'll trade you some freshly cleaned DSM 450s for those 680's since you won't need them for only 250
Yes Chris, I'm very sad I didn't get some timeslips with that motor. All you teg boys would still have blown my doors off, but it would have been fun
Oh well, hopefully the B18 BOMBER will be ready for takeoff in a couple more weeks!

The skunk2 manifold is going to be released within the next two months, so I am going with that. I also have a gsr 60mm t-body for the intake manifold.
I will check out the competition cams and see what they offer.
I like my injectors big, so I can run very low duty cycles. Even though the injectors are probably going to be overkill, I want the room for expandability. Sorry, cant part with them.
I am thinking even going back to my original high compression mentality with this d block. I used to run 11:1 on a built b16a, and it made the world of difference for spool up and overall drivability. This engine is going to be focused on more real world, daily driving so the higher compression will allow me to give a great partial throttle response, quicker spool up and make the power goal. I am thinking 8lbs daily to make it conservative, and 12lbs on race gas. I am just confused on whether i should stay with my 57 trim t04e compressor, or sell the turbo and go with the 50 trim. The 50 trim has a much better compressor map for this engine.
