flywheel discussion (come join)
What flywheel is everyone using. Why? Was price a factor? Also can you go to light? I was wondering if it is bad to go to light. I'm talking brand new flywheels not just shaving some weight off the oem one. I'm looking at exedy I heard it weights less than 10 lbs...i think that is kick butt. So what do you guys think is there something lighter? Something that is better quality at the same weight? let me know.

oem units are good down to 12 pounds unless you are pushing turbo sized power.
I am going to lighten my oem unit (gsr) because of price, I'll be lightening my oem crank pulley at the same time.
havent heard any downsides to a light flywheel on Hondas yet.. other cars may see issues.. like a 4000+ pound domestic with a low redline...

the comptech aluminum and the fiadanza(sp) are apparantley the same... they are manufactured by the same company, they weigh like 7.5 lbs i think and the fiadanza is a lot less expensive than the comptech piece. i will go with one if i decide on aluminum, otherwise i will get a spoon flywheel. just thought i'd "come join"

Exedy Organic clutch and Fidanza 7.5 (I thought it was 6.9) lb flywheel. 8000 miles since replacement motor...... slight starting up problem. Driveability is good.
Bolt on's right now. FI this summer. I'd like to see how the clutch holds up before I replace it.

The only downside to a lightened flywheeel is that the lower mass makes initial engagement somewhat tricky. Without the extra mass it is easy to stall the car during initial acceleration from a stop. You have seen it many times when a car is leaving the pits and stalls. However the lighter the flywheel the quicker it will spin up to speed. This makes for faster acceleration.

how do you lighten your oem flywheel?
Lightened OEM and put the money I save towards other parts I needed.

is the comptech 6.9 or something... why did you think that was the weight?
machine shop.. they will shave it for you. I had mine done for my old SOHC for $30.
so you just goto machine shop w/ flywheel in hand and say shave this for me?
where do they shave it?
how much do you have shaved?
is it like taking your flywheel and cutting it in half?
i'm sorry i just dont get it? *must be that just 100 post syndrome*
how much would it cost?
i'm running an assco 8lb flwheel with act clutch, it's an awsome combo and i'v been very impressed with the improved accel and throttle responce, to me thease mods are essential well worth the cash
Type R flywheel. 15lbs. $100 used...can't beat that.
It's nice, but I can only compare it to a stock B series flywheel. I have yet to use/drive a car with an aftermarket flywheel.

shaved and balanced OEM units. i have had them done at few different places around prices from $60-180 for shaving/balancing and resurfacing (weighted at 11.5-12.5lbs)
I definatly recommend it for most honda motors.

now the chromoly pieces (Cusco and Toda - 8.5lbs)
