fter out of park without sticking the key into the release slotHelp with automatic tranny problem (p
Just finished an automatic jdm b16a swap into a 93 dx sedan. Car runs and shifts fine but I can't get the shifter out of park without sticking the key in the release slot. I don't know auto trannys too well so I need some help. I'm going to check the brake lights and fuses along with the brake switch. Any other ideas/solutions?
PS. this is not my car so don't ask me why I didn't switch to manual.

Per my 90 Accord,
I used a Haynes manual and tested the key interlock solenoid, shift lock solenoid, then finally the shift position console switch which someone posted on this board. The first two were fine although they all take part in this function. I also heard a delayed clicking sound under the hood towards the bottom but fortunately didn't have to go that far and that component was fine. The post on another site suggested replacement of the neutral safety switch or the gear position switch. I wanted to validate the problem. I discovered 13 year old grease in the electrical contacts of this switch that turned to hard "EAR WAX". That explains why we have no problem in the summer. I used a black and decker rotary tool with a 1/2" wire wheel and paper buffer. It also has 2 springs which push the contacts out. The WAX will hinder this expansion. I used silicoln lubricant in a can to spray this build-up out. Be patient. I also used some insulated wire to compress the assembly so it is a tight fit. It works great!!! Can't believe I suffered all those winters.
