Need advice replacing head gasket (88 accord carb'd)
Okay, my cousin just moved in with me and he bought a POS 88 accord LX to repair and drive for $100.00. It has a blown head gasket and seized motor. We're trying to spend less than that to get the car running.
1. I am going try and unseize the motor by pouring diesel fuel into the cylinders (head removed of course) and cranking the motor by hand until it spins freely. Has anyone done this? The guy we bought the car from says the motor is seized because it has been sitting for months and by now there is probably surface rust in the cylinder walls thus seizing the not-so-potent A20A block.
2. I know a place that will mill the head for 20 bucks. In the unlikely event I find the head to be straight, should I still get it milled?
3. There are like a billion vaccum lines (remember car is carburated). Should I unbolt the intake manifold and lift up the head only or undo the vaccum lines and lift the whole head/manifold assembly as one and then re connect all the vaccum lines with the aid of a manual?
Any assistance is appreciated. Remember cost is an issue. My cousin only has one part time job and earns 100/week.
**edit: I called Honda Auto Salvage and they said 450 for a used engine with 1 year warranty. If the unseizing with diesel trick does not work, we'll have to buy one of those engines. **

Check the head if it needs to be millled then mill it otherwise leave it alone.
I suggest pulling the pistons and having the block bored .25 over. This requires new pistons but, at 30 dollars each it isn't that bad.
Or. Find someone in the local area selling a SOHC that no longer wants it.
200 is not an uncommon price.
MARK all vaccum lines. Starting at 1 working your way up. Mark the line on both ends and both ports taht it connects to. Do this, or your screwed

leave the manifold in the car. half of those 13 year old rubber hoses and plastic fittings will break. just unbolt the mani push it back will your friend pulls the head.
