Default rear bumper removal trouble and alignment

alright you know the two screws underneath the car for the bumper (one above exhaust, one on the other side) ? well first the one above the exhaust was having trouble coming out, and then the crosshead started stripping...so then i took off everything else to look where the screw went into. and the little squarish threaded bolt that the screw goes into is turning along with the screw~

i tried putting a vise grip on the square thing, but it still turns with the screw, and since i dont have a second person to hold the vise grip, i tried holding it myself. but now the head of the screw is completely stripped so im doing vise grips on both sides, and its really not working with me trying to hold on to the top and bottom vise grips. have any ideas i would work this? now once (or if) i get this screw out, what can i do, since the square thing is broken off? should i just put a hex bolt on a different screw on the other side?

thanks

P.S. - another question: where the rear bumper meets the rear quarter panels, there is a centimeter gap on both sides, and the gap gets bigger going up. what could cause this mis-alignment? tried pushing it in further but thats as far as it goes. the ends of my rear bumper seems to be sagging, but the middle is decently flush. the bumper reinforcement seems fine, no rust or any dents...what are my options?

se a drill to drill the screw out. Start with a small bit and work up until you can break or otherwise remove the head of the problem screw. Replace with another low profile screw, also using a discreet "fender washer."

As for your alignment problem:
I believe there are some aligment adjustments in the fender well area where the bumper screws into the quarter panel. Once you get the bumper off you should be able to see what I am talking about. It is a plastic bracket that has some adjustments.

You may end up having to heat the bumper with a heat gun or gas heater. Do it slowly and evenly. Once heated you should be able to "form" your bumper a small amount. This may be enough to even out your problems. Keep in mind that your bumper has been sitting in the sun for 10+ years and it gets hot and gravity acts on it.

Otherwise just stuff some junk up behind it unitl it conforms to the shape you want. More styrofoam maybe?

Hope this helps
