Do you disconnect the battery when doing this?

No. I use the battery/starter to bump the engine around to do each set of valves.

interesting...

i would use the manual crank.

can you actually use the starter? how would you do this without reaking havoc...

that will take some time to get lobes where you need them.

Actually, I use a remote starter button. Have been using it almost everyday for about [ stops, scratches head] 20 years. Have it down. One complete revolution of the camshafts and all the valves are done.
