EP ideas
Whats up guys? I have a 02 Si and my mian goal is to make a good roading racing/autoX car that also can pull consitant 13s on the strip.
What kind of setup do you think I should go for. Im not made of money conisdering I am only 19 years old but I know I have to spend a fairly good amount to give my car some power. Ive been throwing around the idea of a turbo kit, JRSC, or swapping in a k20a2, or a k20a type R. What would you guys think the best, cheapest, most reliable way of reaching myo goal would be?

I'm thinking they may not allow enough suspension travel on the EP3. The front springs are 6" and the rears 5". Once you lower the car, you loose shock travel.
I feel you, Im 20 years old, in college and have no money. But for now I personally think your best bet would be to get a turbo kit. That is really easy horsepower, its upgradable as you do more work to the engine and its relatively affordable. I would not go with the engine swap right now because the K series engines are the most expensive honda engines right now because of how new they are. Guys at Honda told me they are more expensive than the S2000's. Another thing is once the RSX and Si become a little bit older and the engines become less expensive, you could bolt your turbo onto the new engine you just swaped into your car.

yeah, Grassroots Motorsports did this, they eventually had to run insane spring rates and the car was not street friendly, and did fairly OK at national level auto-x.
If you dont have enough cash,DO NOT boost a car....What ya gonna do IF something pops????Youll be SOL really fast.IMHO,you have to be able to afford to FIX the car/replace the motor if something goes wrong.Without proper finaincial backing,i wouldnt go that route....
Well as of right now I have....
Groundcontrol coilvers (which ill soon be selling beucase im going to get the Tein SS kit)
16" black TE37s w/ 205/45zr/16 paradas
JDM red honda emblems
Spoon sports shiftknob
and a full stereo (dont want ot list everything!haha)
So im ready for some go fast parts now. I dont really want to waste the money with i/h/e on the k20a3 becuase it just isnt the good Kseries motor. The only choice for this motor is forced induction or a swap.

Tein SS's??? actually josh, if u are really serious about handling, u should stick wit the GC set up and swap out the springs for stiffer ones.. Find out what rates your GC springs are and add another 150 to that...then get the koni inserts...The Tein SS's are fine for the streets but the spring rates are kinda soft....I've seen ur ride on ephatch too and its very nice....

One of the main reasons i want the SS kit is to have comfortable street driving. Seriuos handling is important to me but I dont go out to the track that much. I think with new sway bars the SS kit, strut bars, and x braces it should handle pretty good and be pretty comfortable at the sametime
Ive really been leaning towards a k20a2 swap or the k20a type R. Just beucase I could probaly get my car going pretty fast with a all motor setup and it would be more relaible then a turbo considering this is my dailydriver. Not to mention a 6speed is ALWYAS fun!
I wonder how much I could sell my k20a3 for it only has like 11k miles on it!

GC's for the 02 Si come with 375 front/450 rear. However, the motion ratio on the rear of the EP3 is a lot less than the old DC2/EG, so that 450 is not as stiff as you think.
And you can run higher rates with the GC's, but if you want to lower the car, you're still going to run into the shock travel issue. Grassroots did, and I believe their Konis were even shortened. And remember how long it toook GC to figure this out? They had to go back in and whack off a few things on the shock to allow it to fit further down on the spring.
To do an EP3 properly, IMO, you need a suspension with adjustable height and stroke. That way you can lower the car, yet retain shock travel.
FYI: The Tein Flex kit for the EP3 comes with 450 front/560 rear spring rates. And I believe it will allow a lot more shock travel than a GC kit. I've always liked GC stuff in the past, but I don't think it is a good answer for the EP3/RSX, especially if you want to lower your car more than 1.5" or so. Plus, when shocks come out for the EP3, the GC sleeves might not fit a few aftermarket pieces.

But if you remain patient, folks will start finding power out of the K series motors. It's there, believe me.
Dude, why would you even buy the EP3 when the RSX-S weighs the same and comes with the motor you want? Don't swap, just trade the car in. You're basically pissing away your warranty that you paid for with the new car.
anyway...
I think the k20a3 well bea good performaner for forced induction applications but i dont think it'll be that good of an allmotor beast beucase of its lack of vtec and its 12valve under 2200rpm.

As for 'lack' of vtec, I can think of a lot of good performing 4 cylinder motors that don't have vtec.
