Default Amsoil Bypass Oil Filters

i was thinking about getting this...

http://www.amsoil.com/products/bf.html

By-Pass Oil Filters
Engine wear is caused by dirt particles larger than 5 microns. The AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filter removes particles as small as 1/10 of a micron, virtually eliminating engine wear. AMSOIL By-Pass Oil Filters filter all the oil in a six-quart system in about five minutes at an average engine speed equivalent to 45 mph.

has anyone else seen or used it & have any opinions/comments?

the thing is... that is his job to sell to you. and the better salesmen are at selling stuff ppl don't need, the better they are at their job.

A lot of the applications seem to be for domestic motors. Any example of 4-cylidner imports using this? or real-world pictures? (something to ask the guy you buy amsoil for).

Looks like a lot of work to tap the oil pan, or buy moroso pan.

I've looked at the same product; more so the remote bypass/full flow filter combo. It should tap in at the stock oil filter location. Mounting the remote filters would make changing the filter a piece of cake too.

-CRAP! ...most engine wear is caused by cold-start-up!

yeah 80% of engine wear is at startup (no oil on engine). synthetic oils stick to all the parts, almost eliminating engine wear, but a second filter would create less oil pressure, resulting in more engine wear. id just opt for a really good filter, and not waste the money on the amsoil one. plus, the fact that one can put 500,000 miles on a well-taken care of honda engine kinda rules out the amsoil thing. if you drove a ford my reply would be different.

i remember seeing someone rig up a system that required oil pressure built up before it would allow the car to startup. Anyone else see it or have a link to it?

How would it build up oil pressure? Hand crank or something?

In the Helms manual it says never use a bypass oil filter. Not sure if this applies to this set up or not.

#1 This would only filter oil above a certain oil pressure.

#2 This would not eliminate the bypass valve in your oil filter, which could cause a potentially serious loss of oil pressure.

#3 http://www.cantonracing.com has FAR better oil solutions, including high flow spin-on oil filters without a bypass valve.

I REALLY like what I'm seeing with these filters.

http://www.cantonracing.com/tech.cfm

I'm going to try and find a little more info about them, but I may be "sold" too hah.

Trucking/shipping fleets use these filters with great success.

I would not put it on my personal vehicle. this will introduce more parts that can fail.

I think Honda did a pretty good job at designing these motors with regards to their lubricating/filtering. I will leave my setup alone.

Wow, that's one expensive filter! It is reuseable though. Anyone using these CM filters?

Kenji-

While I appreciate the argument of less is more...the spin on filters don't look half bad. http://www.cantonracing.com/spin-on.cfm

They claim you only have to change the filter every 2 oil changes...although I kind of like the idea of having a new filter in there each time.

This looks way too complicated. Just do your oil change often and you GOOD filter. I'm planning to get Canton/Mecca remote oil filter setup.
