If by "gears" you mean cam gears, yes of course they do. Cam gears were available for "our" cars much before aftermarket "cams" were. Sure you can run a 13.9 NA with full-interior, but yeah it will take a some internal work, good tuning and of course....good driving.

Warren (VEETEC) from GA was running consistant high 13s (I think the best was a 13.7) several years ago. He had a 93 Prelude VTEC with just bolt-ons. It had full interior. Again, he just had bolt-ons - intake, header, high-flow cat, cat-back, clutch, flywheel, etc. There was no headwork or cams or any other internal work on his car at the time.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Warren was running on crappy Dunlop street tires on stock 19lb 15" rims...

Prodrive makes a final drive gear set for the Prelude. Just FWIW. BUt its a bit pricey too.

I thought he did have a little work done on the head? I dunno what kinda tires he was running on either.

He was on some cheapo Dunlop street tires. He had head work and wild cams done later, and after that he could never even get back into the 13s... In other words, much to his dismay, his car was faster before the headwork and cams. He sold that car shortly thereafter.

that is hard to believe.... maybe its the humidity here in FL. for instance , there were 5 ludes friday night, it was a low 40 degrees, my best time was 15.7 @ 89 with all bolt ons, (1996 vtec), .570 reaction time , and a 2.5 60 foot. on 17's"

they re-did the track its hard to get outta the hole. also my teg hybrid ran 14.9 there on 15's, now since they did track, its getting a 16.3!!!! (with 17") wtf. thats a bid difference, ...

listen also , nissan 350z and s2000;s are still in 14's to put you people in perspective... subarus wrx's are running 13.4- 14.5's all night. embarrsing much bling there... ITR;s in the 14's no prelude broke a 15...

anyway, i record vid tape when i go, so i can tell you more times if u like...

peace, alan

Base 5spd 2001 prelude

header:
exhaust:
pulleys:
final drive gear:
flywheel:

and i would probably make my own test pipe...

what brands would you use for the above things for the best performance

Todd (JG Luder) ran a 13.9 on 3 cyl one night. (spark plug wire popped out while staging)
Todd was good for low 13's on street tires... would have touched 12's on a perfect night with Slicks..

actually, it was a 13.96, and it was on four cylinders and stock tires. I still had my stereo in. Just minus a lot of things like ECU, cams, cam gears, fuel tuning, fuel pump, VAFC, MSD ignition etc etc. Just a basic internal rebuild and a few other goodies, no official tuning other than seat of the pants.

The best I could tell on street tires, from running other cars, was low 13's (around 13.30's) after those things and no tuning. With a little dyno time and slicks, it should've hit 13.00's or even high high 12's. That's with no spare or jack and "mild" weight (like 10-20 lbs) reduction... the rest of the int. was still in and looked stock.

The motor was destroyed after an incident with the cams, before it had a chance to be tuned.

Then of course, we have the monstor being built now.

Man i wish you could of got off a good run before that JG motor grenaded.Of course mine still has problems and J*** is no longer at JG and it seems no one else can ever be reached there.
As far as answering the post unorthodox pulleys seem to be some of the best out there.Exhaust and header you should do a search because its been covered a few times and for quarter mile racing im not sure about the flywheel.I put one in my car and it revs faster but it wants to bog off the line.In a fifth gen you will most likely need a few more things than you have listed like head work.

*shrug*

I posted what I ran. I posted what was estimated to run vs. other consistant cars. (noting that this is speculation, not fact, as anyone can see.) Then I posted what I was aiming for.

I don't see what's wrong in that.

Sorry man, I was actually refering (in general) to people who claim their car should do this or should do that. I didn't mean it directly towards you. My goal is 12's also, but I haven't hit them yet nor will I have a clue when it will happen. The time I can boast about are in my sig. That's it. Until I run a 12, or somebody else who claims thier car should run 12's actually can't make claims until they do it themselves. Just my opinion.

Interesting, please explain some details. What kind of torque converter, and what was the mph? Do you know the ballpark weight?

My best run was a 13.9, but not backed up. I backed up numerous 14.1's and 14.2's @ 95mph. No head/block work, just basic bolt-ons and slicks. If I don't hit some nice 12's this spring, i'm going to lose it!

fyi- The times are n/a, but will be boosted times in the spring.

Mike- who's been turbocharged for almost 2 years, but never raced it once.

Matt: you may want to add a few things to that list like:

1. LSD
2. Fully done head with all the trimmings
3. Pistons with a higher CR. JDM Type S pistons are the cheap way to go about it.
4. Clutch
5. Lightened Flywheel( this is debateable of course, but couple with the right clutch makes a great launch combo in my opinion)
6. Injectors
7. Intake
8. Bored TB

Your list with the above will help you get into the 13's. Garenteed? I dunno, Ill find out myself though this Spring.
