h23 surging idle problem
I have a h23 turbo running hondata. I actually just bought the car just a few days ago from my good friend "Silverludesi". Im still trying to get to know the car in and out since its only been a few days.
Although Silverludesi sold the car to me, he is still very hands on with it and weve been trying to fix some things here and there. One thing thats been really bothering me is the surging idle problem. I used the search and its come up with a few ideas, but werent too helpful. I checked for vacum line leaks by sprayin throttle body cleaner around hoses and seeing if the engine would rev up but we didnt find anything. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Just seems like so many factors that could cause this especially considering all the extra factors that come into play with a turboed engine. Any ideas apreciated, and i hope to learn a lot from this board.

You were correct in looking at the vacum lines. This is what it is! I have a 92 Si and it happened to me. I also could not find a leak in the lines. Check where the hoses go into the intake manifold. I ended up replacing all of my lines. This fixed it. GOOD LUCK.
we tried, looked at all lines and believe me silverludesi took great care of this car. All vac lines r new and zip tied on. Let me elaborate more on the symptoms. This happens when im in neutral and it goes from about 1k to 3000rpm but weird thing is i can give it a quick blip in the throttle up to 3000 rpm and sometimes it stops the erradic idle and settles it down. Weird...... Any thoughts?
I had this problem in mine..... I took it to a mechanic 'friend' of mine.... He charged me $50 to rebuild the throttle. He said the valve slipped and now was able to poen slightly and close, which caused this erratic idling... Maybe he was full of ****, whcih I think he was now, but oh well...... Alright now, I think I actually know what vacuum hose it is.... Theres is a plastic piece on the throttle area which holds a vacuum hose above it right? This hose should go back to a disc looking part on the far right side of the fuel injection.... This hose is for the actuator on the stock air box.... Its a useless hose.... I say just unplug it all together.... I did with mine, or my 'friend' did... Not real sure, was puting on my CAI and I noticed that hose being open... I plugged it, guess what? Surging idle again.... I freaked out hard... Unplugged it, and t was fine again... Try that... or maybe you really do need it rebuilt.... I dunno? That guy is a friend of my mom, and he charges me right... cheap... maybe he jiped me on this one, oh well... He does good work for $50 labor on a stage II clutch install.... He may have been getting even with me some how...
hey, i could swear that there are 2 vacuum lines there on the h23. when you install a CAI, most people remove the vacuum box under the stock airbox which is connected to that vacuum line. When I installed my CAI, I plugged the line and didnt notice any difference. There is another line to the right of it which i didnt touch, maybe that one is more important. This is all on the manifold BTW, not on the throttle body.

from what ur describing, for me something simular happen and it was where the cable is located on the pully, i dont know what it is called. well the accelerater cable is what i am going to call it located right on the intake manifold, the grease was old and the pedal would stick or come off slowly. take that piece and take it apart, clean it and regrease it.
