what kind of weight reduction.....
been on the search..... and been here with the lot of topics we had about them...
yeah i know removing stuff here and there takes weight...
i want to drop the weight.. but i dont wanna loose the interior... i got a kid... i carry a childseat and i do like the interior... i wanna see if theres any way of droppig the weight of the car.... i have been thnking of changing my 90 doors to 89 with non door mounted belts.. that will help a lot...
but i wanted to ask what kinda "dead" parts have u guys found that its not nesesary and can be taken out... i dont have AC, PS, or any other thing other than the alt.... i wanna know if the bumpers can be lighten.... stuff inside fenders, hatch.. i want inputs on dead parts that can actually remove some weight.... i am not removing the tar.. too noisy without it for my son...
any inputs and idea we can brainstorm here will bre appreciated...

waht exactly are u refering??? i have taken my bumper apart... but theres the metal bar, the foam and the rubber bumper... how u hold the bumper without that metal bar....
ur bumper supports are like 35 lbs a peice and the only protect u against 5 mph collisions so do as i did and ditch that ish
weight reduction is good and all but if i was carying a child i would not want to take away safety equipment. a racecar is one thing but a daily driver with kids is another. (and i dont even like kids

The bumper supports don't weigh enough to remove in my opinion, even if they are only good to five mph, supposedly. Mine held up pretty good in the 80+ wreck I had, albeit it was a glancing blow to the back side(don't ask).

my opinion on weight reduction:
I stripped about everything useless out and ended up with a noisy car. Sure it looked nice .. for a week or two .. your friends tell you it's the bomb .. sure cuz they don't drive it .. And what did it gain me? .. a freaking 0.3s on the 1/4 mile .. WOW .. I'd rather make some torque and hp so I don't care about weight .. I'd rather drive a "pretty" normal car
But here's a list of things you really don't need:
-spare tire
-tools
-firewall (behind dash)

Go shopping on mmrusa.com, you can buy a fiberglass rear hatch and Flexite rear windows, that'll help you lose well over a hundred pounds without sacraficing any saftey equipment. You could also buy a tilt forward fiberglass front-end or a less radical fiberglass hood.
The Si and DX have a pretty solid front bumper beam and the HF has a very minimal frame bracket to hold up the bumper skin. I did this switch when building the non-IT racecar. I thought about trying to lighten the Si beam but is was so nasty and rusty and a new fresh HP support was not that expensive from the dealer. Don't know the exact weight savings but probably 15 lbs or so that is hanging on the extreme end of the car. You do lose all impact protection though.
If you are trying to increase the general performance without losing safety or comfort, look at the weight of your wheels and tires as they are rotating mass and effect accel and braking. Kosei K1s look good and are light and fairly cheap. I also lighten all my flywheels whenever I do a clutch. Shaving 5 lbs off the flywheel doesn't take that much actual weight but really zips the car up without losing any stoplight manners.
