my girl has a 95 prelude special edition. just recently she has been having problems getting her key out of the ignition. when the key does come out the buzzer will still be going off and the radio and other electrics will still work. the doors won't lock either because the car thinks the keys are still in. anybody have this problem or know how to fix it.

 

No offense man, but learn to turn the car off before yanking the keys... It will round them off like it has for her. It sounds like the car is still on ACC moda when you are yanking out the keys. Tell her to trun it all the way off. Everythgin should stop and it should work fine. Theres not really any other way for that to happen. If it truely has happened.... well... she needs a new ignition switch, because somehow hers has blown (which is not earthly possible).

 

I just had this problem on my car.... 92 4ws auto. The locksmith told me that somehow something in the tranny linkage gets bumped, so its slightly off and the car well not FULLY go into park (or just the computer thinks its not in park). When the car is not in park, you cant get the key out. The locksmith rebult my ignition (much better then getting a new one... far cheeper, plus you dont have 2 keys (one ign, one doors)) and by passed the switch that tells if that car is in park (soilnoid). He also cut me new keys from the vin number (btw, the code for the keys is on the ignition... so get some keys cut if you take the ign out.).

Anyway, hes some prices from when mine broke:

New igniton switch installed at honda: $430
New igition switch installed and keyed to match other locks at honda: $750
What I got (rebuilt my ignition + bypass): $40

btw, the problem is usually rounded off keys... your keys rounded off if you have to pull it out slightly to turn it. IE: you cant put the key all the way in (you can, but it wont turn).

 

had the same problem when i first got my lude,.. wouldnt go completely into park and key wouldnt come out.. but the past few years.. its never caused me anymore problems.. so check on that
