Default Check Engine Light is on....Suspect bad EGR valve...HELP

My wife has a 1997 Honda Accord EX. It has a VTEC engine. The check engine light came on, I took it to a local parts dealer to check the code that it puts out.. The guy tells me that it is a bad EGR valve. I replaced the EGR valve last night and this morning the light came back on. I checked all lines going to the EGR and found no leak. If anyone can help me out, this would be greatly appreciated. An other question that I have, is it safe for my wife to continue to drive the vehicle?

Thanks

What code does it have stored now? It may not be the same as it had before.

Actually most 5th gens had problems of this nature. My 96 EX was triping a code 12 which is the egr valve. There was a recall and an emissions extension warranty until 140,000 miles. Give your local honda dealer your vin number and have them check to see if your 97 was involved in this recall/extension. Anyway, like I said I had this same problem but it was the egr control valve, not the egr itself. The Honda Dealership Couldnt figure it out. Luckily I have a friend who is a former honda mechanic and told me that was most likely the problem. The egr control valve is on the right side of the engine bay, take it off (if you're going to fix it yourself) and try to blow air through it, if it doesnt click its bad.
