Default Found a Dx Trans-Read.

As some of you might know I've been searching for a good used Si trans to replace my fubared Si Trans--My bearings are fucked to the point where I might just settle for a Dx trans to have good bearings again. I can get this for cheap. Anyways I am under the impression that it will feel like my Si from 1-4 gears, just 5th is lower--am I right? I am Ok w/ that if that is the case---but if all the gears feel slower I might not buy. Any input appreciated to help me make my decision.

i went from a Si tranny to a DX wich i currently have...
actually the gears on 1-2-3 are a lil the same.. u can actually get the same speeds in ea gear... just a few mph diff.... but once u hit like 5th its a total diff world... u can actually run 75mph @ 3200 and save gas..
the car accelerates with no big problem... IMO it just feels that the car its lighter with an SI tranny.... i have been thinking to keep the DX since the gear ratios are the same and have that gas advantage on highway since i do a few miles ea day....
or find a Final drive that its between 3.88 and 4.25.. like a 4.00 and have good aceleration and fair top speed...

why dont u have someone replace the bearings?? its cheaper get a new tranny ... well if u take the asi out let me know... i might need a parts tranny donor...

Can't you just switch the final drive and make the DX an Si tranny?

yes
i am actualy thinking about that also...
but i dont wanna take tranny out and swap final drive and actually dont have any tranny ... i wanna build the tranny and have it ready and then just swap it...
but yes.. u can transform a DX tranny to a Si by switching to the final drive...

the thing is spring semester starts and I cannot afford downtime to have the bearings redone---I think I'm going to buy this trans, use it for now, and eventually have my Si trans redone when I blow my a6---so when I get a replacement motor I'll have my Si trans back---I love how it just wants to keep going in every gear----So basically 1st through 3rd are similar, but not the same? but are they close like the Si?

I have really nothing to compare it too, but I really don't mind my DX tranny w/ a z6 motor. Si might have better acceleration, but I think daily driving is good

DX tranny is terrible. SO slow... My 88 DX has the longest gears EVER. Can't wait to get the B16 with S1
