I would start on a small bike. A 250 or 500cc. And if I were beginning, I would definately buy a used bike. Yamaha makes a good 500cc starter bike and you can get them for around a grand. Also, when you get your endorsment, PLEASE practice before you just go right out into traffic! But of course, thats if it were me. Ryan

I agree with Ryan, but there are going to be people telling you that a 600 cc Superbike will be no problem for a beginner to start out on.

I started on a 600ss and i think if you are somewhat knowledgable pretty much anyone can...I have always had dirt bikes, 4 wheelers and snowmobiles though since i was kid so the actual control part wasn't hard to get used to..i made some mistakes at first, but they really didn't have anything to do with the bike i was riding, moreso me getting used to riding in traffic, i would have done the same things on an ex250 or ex500, although a smaller bike would be easier to correct your self on (i was able to regain control in my situation, but someone who didn't have the dirt bike exp. might not have been able to)...All in all if you have zero experience on a anytype of motorized bike i would recommend starting with a 250 or 500, there cheap and you can usually sell em with out a big loss down the road....Good luck and be safe.

used ninja 250, rebel 250, gs500e, ninja 500. it's already been said but it's worth repeating, if you buy a used bike like a ninja 250 or a rebel, you should be able to sell it for a little less than what you bought for it, since there are always going to be newbies around that want to buy newbie bikes. the resale value will stick. if you buy a used bike now and ride around for 6mo-1year, you might be able to find some good deals on barely used sportbikes that squids went out and bought after seeing "Biker Boyz" and are then selling because their best friend got smote in an accident (no offense to any of you who have experienced such a tragedy though)
