Grease Buildup/Leak In CV Boot
I've noticed that I'm getting sludge buildup around my CV Boot (see picture). There's no noise or anything coming from them but the leaking has gotten me concerned. It's a 97 Civic Coupe with 65,000 miles on it. It's been lowered for the better part of it's life (about 5 years). I've heard that lowering can cause premature wear on them. Is this true? Is it possible to remedy the problem myself? If so, how difficult is it (compared to, let's say, a shock/spring install)? I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to this area so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
thats not a knife, this, is a knife....
look a lot like bugs huh?... but it turns out i have the same problem as you: just... a bit more drastic, since i have rebuilt axles

Usually you won't get problems with CV joints because lowered, unless you lower drastically. But then again I don't believe you'd get leaks, you'd have problems more with grinding.
Looks more like the metal ring tying your boot is a little loose. I wouldn't worry too much about it, maybe just check up every 10k or something, and add a little grease.
