'03 Expo security concerns!
With all the theft and car jacking going on, we really need a solid plan for our security measures at the Expo!
Sure, track events are safe in general... but let's think for a second. '03 Expo has been advertised all over the internet and just about any local message board knows about it. Do you think low-life thieves will be detered by just sheer number of participants? I don't think they give rat's ***.
What if there's an incident involving much for than a theft? What if an incident like an armed robbery/theft as it occured in NV? Do we have any plans?
Call me super paranoid, but there should be at least some sort of well laid out security measures. And, as much as I don't want to sound like a dick, unless entrants are ITR owners or those who are instructors, ALL and EVERY entrants should be registered w/ name and some sort of ID (driver's, car tag, etc.).
**** happens at big events. Recent thefts makes me a bit uneasy. It's not a regular HPDE with little exposure... there will be 100+ ITR's.
Any ideas? Trey? Dave?
Hire a security for the 3 days??
Am I nuts?

IMHO the expo may attract thieves like bees to honey this year. It's far too over-publicized on the interent and I am finally convinced that thieves do prowl h-t... Sad but true, if I went to the expo I'd go as a spectator in my VW.

Do the hotel we stay have security patrol? I'm more concern the safety at the hotel (especially at night) than at the track.
I think this is a GOOD idea since I think we may have a lot of " visitor " and god knows who they are.

The We-Todds may have a handle on security:
on a serious note, how restricted will track access be? I know at VIR, all visitors must sign in and give a reason for being there

I think that the ID check at the gate is a big possitive step. I would like everyone to be vigilant and practice good personal and operational security for those couple days. don't be afraid to ask suspiciouse people questions.

I think the key will be to be aware of our surroundings. Making good decisions about how you leave your stuff and getting to know others ASAP.
I can arrange with a vynil shop to allow us to purchase our honda-tech name or better yet real name to put on our car and people can ask us for ID?
I just don't see full blown security as something we can do effectively. FOr once I would be willing to hear what Ken has to say. He should be able to share security measures at NSXpo.
Sean you ARE the most paranoid person I have met so I at least know where you are coming from

In light of some of this we may need to make the event closed to the 175 peoploe paid to atend in one way or another. Thoughts?
Trey
PS: You are nuts
Do the Holiday Inn hotel we stay have security patrol? I'm more concern the safety at the hotel (especially at night) than at the track.

At night the track will be closed and will have a security guard. I will discuss that the guard only let people in that are camping or accompanied by a conmaper and ask for ID.

yeah I think the best thing we can do is be intelligent about it. I'm not hitting the track, just hanging out will all my ITR buddies, so I hope I dont get 'screened'
but i think if we act responsibly, pay attention and stuff, security wont be a huge problem.
Honestly, I'd be glad to spearhead a "Up All Night" campaign just to put peoples mind's at ease. if you're nervous, leave your car at the track with the campers who will probably be up anyways.....something along those lines maybe? thoughts?

Also, those who are guest, they should also get name tags/track passes, but only for an exchange for their information.
I agree, we'll be vigilant, but sometime we cannot be on guard all the time.
P.S. Will - if you're reading this, you should limit random people from staying at your house.
The best thing we can do is to require sign-in at the gate. My preference is to allow only paid drivers and banquet antendees into the track with credentials - received at sign in. All other spectators will have to register AND pay for entry. $10 per person.
1)Do they have a registration area outside of the gate to the track?
2)Do they have a gate for the track?
I can take care of making credentials.

Setup Videocameras.
One at the entrance to the track. Make sure it is positioned to get the drivers face, and plate#.
Have them setup pointing out the hotel windows into the parkinglots. Someone may get away with one, but if you get them on tape, maybe we can get it back.

Security at the Track is covered by a security guard and of course by the we-todd's. If we hear something we'll investigate it. On that note, if you have to come back to the track for some reason, you might want to let us know about it..
At the hotel, hiring security will be complicated due to the sheer number of vehicles. IMO having people do security themselve (like 10 people at a time for 2 hours, one night only) is the best idea but I doubt it'll happen because there's very few people that would actually do that.
All guests will have to register with us and we can make passes for them. If you see someone without a pass, question them. I don't have a problem letting people that haven't registered come visit (those from the autox for example) but we should get their personal information before giving them a guest pass.
Sean, you are paranoid
and nuts. lol
-Dave, who thinks Trey, George and myself should discuss this issue further.

Dave has some good points, and I agree that a H-T security detail of some type is the best idea. It'd be free, which is good. More importantly though, the people who actually care about losing our cars should be more than willing to spend two hours getting to know some other h-t'ers in the hotel parking lot.
shrug, a few people with cellphones and firearms and coffee would be a good measure at crowded locations (ie hotels with alot of us). I'd also suggest xeroxing ID's on registration and check in. If people would provide paper, i'll bring my lexmark which can stand alone copy and keep it at the reg table. Digicam check in wouldnt hurt either.....

Sorry kids, my guns are staying at home. Since I plan on drinking most of the weekend, it would be a bad idea for me to be armed
But yes, I'd guess with the number of we-todds staying at the track, anything left there will be safe. I doubt it would be feasible, but perhaps cars could be left at the track for us and the security guard to watch over?
