Default Need help identifying engine

Hello everyone my first post on HT, i got a Q, prolly kinda stupid but here goes, ok i bought my car like a year and a half ago the guy i bought it from said he rebuilt the engine at 100k miles(dunno why you would want to rebuild with that low) anyways its supposed to be a std hatch, but the engine code says just d15b and i understand this is a 130hp vtec engine now i have a hard time believing that this is what i have in my car, my car is still using dual point instead of multi point injection is this possible to run the 130hp d15b on dual point? hehe if i do have the right d15b that explains why i can pull on a si eq hatch with bolt ons through the first 2 gears(still have 4spd) anywas any help would be appreciated thanks

Nah im positive it says just d15b but oh well lol was hoping i had a diamond that just needed buffing instead of a lawn mower engine i never drove a car with vtec my car is kinda slugish during the first part of the gears then it kinda picks up for example around 20-35ish in 2nd its kinda slugish as soon as i hit around 35ish u can feel power kick in that lasts till 60, i dunno, but anyways prolly just my imagination, is it possible to have vtec with dpfi?

Buddy it is a STD 4spd. non-vtec---hate to tell ya--but those are the speeds when those econobox models make any kind of power---towards the end of those LOOOONG *** gears.

Welcome to the family! I aslo have a JDM D15b. I have to disagree with JDM EF9. The D15b IS a JDM SOHC VTEC motor and It has about 128hp. If it were a D15b1,2, or 7 it would be a USDM SOHC non-vtec. A JDM motor won't have a number at the end of the engine code. It's a very strong motor and pulls really hard on the top end. I've tried to find info on the motor but it is very limited. Try http://pub34.ezboard.com/bhondadseries they have a little info on the motor. Good Luck

Oh yeah an easy way to tell a vtec head from the rest is if the plug wires are towards the front of the Valve cover as appossed the being towards the back of the valve cover. But again THE D15b IS A FACTORY SOHC VTEC MOTOR

Are u serious--it is a Std. Dpfi , 4 spd, USDM -------BTW the way he thinks he has a JDM motor, but doesnt---unless the previous owner got the block and slapped on a 4 spd. and dpfi---which I seriously doubt.

It might be crazy but maybe the previous owner was a slacker and didn't bother to convert to MPFI or swap in a 5spd! D-series parts are interchangable. But I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE D15b IS A JDM MOTOR!

You're right the D15b is a JDM motor, but that's not what they are saying. THey are saying that w/ the 4 spd and the DPFI there is no way that the previous owner stuck a VTEC d15b from Japan in there. The way this guy describes how the motor pulls sounds exactly like mine and I KNOW i have just a regular Std, not a d15 VTEC. By the way, welcome to Honda-Tech.

u can disagree with me all u want...
i know what i was saying...
look at the facts before talkimn hes a guy that lives on WA... has a 4 speed, the HB its a STD,,.. previous owner didnt really care....its a DPFI.... and starts with D15B....
all this sutff indicates that he has a USDM civic HB STD that contains the D15B1.... i seriously doubt some one swaped the JDM VTEC D15B into it and left all that stuff...
i know there is a VTEC D15B... but before being a liar and telling him that he has vtec its being just plain ignorant... i could have told him... check for a vtec solenoid on a specific location.. and thats it .. we would have know... but i didnt wanted to waste his time and go and check for something he might not know what it looks like and get his hopes up...
he says it pulls... yeah he might have one of those reare strong engines (like my friends Si that pulls high 15's stock) but what we saying here its just the truth,.,.
so chill out and peace...

go out there and read the letters on the block again. Clear off ALL the dirt and grime. It should say D15B1... which would be the 62hp DPFI non vtec usdm SLOW std hatch engine.
