Default K&N Oil Filter- Good?Bad?

Just wondering if this filter was anygood. I have a Fram right now and want to switch over to a K&N gold oil filter. Tell what you know or what facts you've heard.
Thanks

As far I know, K&N makes excellent products. As for how much of a performance difference there is between the Fram and the K&N I dunno... I have a K&N racing air filter and my car is good with that. I can't really say how much better K&N is vs the Fram...but will just say that the K&N is better...

Fram filters are about as bad as you can get.

The K&N is one of the better ones out there, although a bit on the pricey side.

There have been several discussions, as well as used filter cut-ups on this before. If you don't mind paying for the K&N then go for it

both mobil 1 and k&n oil filters are made by champion labs.

Good job ejprimo! They are basically the same. I have only used either since I've owned the car. THEY ARE THE BEST YOU CAN USE, HANDS DOWN!
They are rated the best filtering efficiency after MULTIPLE passes. Fram is one of the worst.
HOWEVER, it has been said numerous times before...
"Change your oil at it's required intervals based on driving habits, and it will be the best life extending maintainance performed" (over putting the best oil and filter on your car, and not changing it soon enough)

there is a chance that you might be getting a fram filter when you go oem. if it is made in canada, then it is a fram filter. if it is made in america, then it is a filtech filter. heres a website that may help you choose another filter.

http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/filters.shtml

let it be known that honda is cutting corners contracting fram to make oem filters.

personally i use bosch premium filters which is also made by champion labs. the difference b/w the stp, bosch premium, and mobil one is the filtering ability of each filter. the stp filter is rated at 20 microns whereas bosch premium is 15 microns and mobil one is 10 microns. i use bosch premium over mobil one b/c although the mobil oil filter has the highest filtering rating, it may be too restrictive in terms of oil flow ability. imagine sticking a large amount of filter media into a canister. on the one hand, it will do a great job in filtering your oil, but on the other hand, the oil cannot flow freely. i believe the filtering ability is just as important as oil flow ability. when the amount of oil being pumped into the oil filter surpasses the flow rate of the filter, then the oil filter goes into bypass mode which essentially means that oil is circulating throughout the motor w/o being filtered.

For the price, Purolator has the best filter media but does not flow near the K&N or the bad filtering Mobil1.
