Instead of being the 4th BUTTHOLE in a row to say something like "Do a search!" I'll try to give you some insight from my PERSONAL experiences on the subject.
You can mate the H22A head to a H23A block (it's a simple head-swap). There's nothing else to do other than get a VTEC controler. The main concern about this swap is reliablility. The VTEC (H22A) block comes with under-piston oil-squirters and a FORGED crank. The H23A block was not designed to sustain constant high-rev conditions, and was put together without the oil squirters and had a CAST crank.
My friend has had this setup in his 93 Prelude for over 6 months and drives pretty hard. I imagine that EVENTUALLY engine reliability will be a factor and he'll rebuild with the correct items. But so far, it's been a inexpensive and strong mod. HTH

so pretty much your trying to make a lsvtec style h22 but i do'nt see what would be the advantage of it? h23 and h22 have same torque unlike with the ls vtec people use the ls block becuz of the better torque so u get the better torque plus more hp with vtec.....youd be better off just getting a h22a = JDM h22a 200hp beast

H23 with VTEC head is not reliable, it's only a matter of time, mind you I was revving up to 8500 on a fully knifeedged/balanced crank but eventually it just broke down.
This is talked about frequently here and it is old news. I have built several of them with great success. Have you done a search yet? Seriously there are all kinds of useful post on this subject. If you don't get any results PM me. OH YEAH, if you want the info from me appologize for calling me a moron and a butthole.
the fact is some of us are getting tired to answer the same questions if nobody is going to use the tools that are provided (search) this is a large library .. if people want answers they can have it, but they haven`t learned why that answer was given... it works fine.. reving any stock bottom end 1000rpm can blow a motor.. you contradicted your own post satin... saying it`s not .. hell if you can put 10k on a motor abuse it and only suffer a broken crank hell that`s a + when your motor wasn`t fully balanced with that pulley and running a stock oilpump gear....
everymotor has to die soemtime .. yours just died faster than the rest... someting is to blame.. they run stock h23 cranks on 500hp bostin machines and you mean to tell me a normally aspirated machine barely making 210whp is not reliable ... come on ... wake up !.....

sorry joel but didn`t you know honda made a factory h23 DOHC vtec. in 99 accords.. so if honda puts it out then it must be honda approved...

My motor was completely balanced. Even the Pulley was balanced. Point is even with a fully balanced motor high revving an H23 crank is not reliable. The stroke is just not good with the revs. What the hell are you talking about? thse 500hp deals are turbo motors, that is POWER not revs as with which we are having our discussion.
Now the JDM H23a VTEC is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY. That is a new block with a FORGED crank, from what I have heard here the H23 OLD crank is cast. The JDM H23a VTEC would also have nicer forged rods and completely upgraded systems. Do you know the redline on that motor? Cause I don't, and no one really will becuase they will have to run Prelude H22a ecus on it.

Thank you guys for showing me that. I am now saving up $2500 or so to cover the complete H23A swap with shipping and so on. I was seriously contemplating the H22 swap or H23vtec, but I think an H23A would be different and the best of both worlds. Now, I'll just run nitrous on the h23a1 for extra power untill I can get my h23a :D :D :D :D :D
Have fun finding one, and at that price. Your really going to spend over 3500 for one. Hp is the same and your only gaining 3 ft lbs of torque 200 rpms sooner then a jdm H22A. The funny thing is people on this board think the H23A Vtec is a great buy, and the H22A type-S is a wast of money,lol..

A dont look past the fact that the Accord Sir wagon with the H23A vtec never came with a 5 spd tranny, only a 4spd auto. Its good if you got a auto, but if you dont, what you going to do? I guess you could use your H23a1 tranny, but what about the ECU? Well I guess your going to have to find a H22a manual ECU? so I guess its worth it when you could buy a H22A long block for 1000, cause thats all your gonna use with the 1950 you just spent on the H23A(unless you have a auto tranny)
