I give up, suspension woes - Please give your advice (long)
If you have a b series motor in your EF, please at least tell me what suspension you are running and how much gap you have in the wheelwell. I am barely tucking 15s with 205/50 tires right now - too low.
As some of you know, I have had a problem with my car being too low on Neuspeed Sports and Koni Yellows. Since the suspension is ~5 years old, I figured the springs have sagged. I have been nailing my header and oilpan and ruined my Greddy exhaust.
We installed some Eibach Sportlines last night, which are supposed to only lower 1.75"F and 1.5"R. We also upped the snap ring on the Koni's to seat the springs a little higher. Lower the car down, SAME HEIGHT AS BEFORE. It just doesn't add up. Yes, the snap ring can go up one more notch, but that only gives you ~1/10". Why is this happening? We noticed nothing bent or bad bushings in the suspension. Is the b16 really that much heavier? If you subtract the weight of AC and the stock manifold (DC header is significantly lighter), you would think it isn't that much heavier up front.
I've been thinking about a coilover setup. Which has the highest spring rate? Maybe I'll just replace my struts too, should I maybe just get the Tein SS? Should I get 90-93 Integra rate springs?
I'm so pissed, confused, and lost. I want to ghostride my car off of a cliff. I've searched and people seem to be pretty confused too.

If you want to still try and raise it with the konis take out the shocks remove the springs and other mounting hardware and bring them to a machine shop. Tell them to cut another groove a higher then where you have the snap ring now(or have the last groove left).Move the ring up and try again. Should be cheap like $30 to cut 4 grooves. Any Machine shop with a lathe can do that.

Well it seems that the problem lies in the springs you are choosing. Both springs are sports and will lower your car to that height. They are going lower than normal because of the engine. The engine by itself weighs an additional 80lbs. If you want to go higher, then get the pro-kits, or even better, get some GC coilovers. GC is what I have and I have a B16 too. I'm able to put my ride height exactly where I want it. I'm picky about my ride height too, and springs don't cut it for me. I would suggest you get some type of coilovers, but not necessarily GC. For the quality and money, you just can't beat Ground Control.

So the Ground Controls hold up well with the b16? I'm assuming they are the standard 89-91 civic/crx application? What struts are you running?
That is a pretty slick idea about machining in those extra grooves. That may be my way to go for now...
Thank you guys for your help.
Running koni yellows with H&R race springs in my 88 CRX with B18c1. 14" wheels with 195/60 tires. I have about a one and a half finger gap in front and two fingers in the back. The suspension has been in for about 3/4 of a year now.

The GC do hold up very well with the B16. With GC you can also order custom spring rates. You just have to tell them what you are going to use the springs for.
I don't know what springs rates these are since they were on the car already, but I'm assuming they are the basic rates for the Civic/CRX. I have them on Tokico blues. I'm saving up for the Koni yellows which I'm sure will be even a smoother ride. Right now I'm lowered about 1.5" from stock, and once I get the Koni's, I'll lower it to about 2-2.5".

purchase GCs and you wont have a problem anymore...either normal rates or custom rates are fine...if its too low, simply adj the collar...no biggie
Yeah, I hear that you can do custom spring rates with GC, but I have no idea what I would really want if I had to choose. Maybe something in the middle of the Civic and Teg? Maybe I'll call GC tomorrow. Thanks again fellas.
I have a b16 with a/c in my hatch riding on Koni Yellows (middle ring setting) and GC coilovers with custom 450f/350r spring rates. My coilovers are set at about the highest setting and I have one finger in front and one and a half in back.
I am dropping a 1.8 block in soon but will be romoving the a/c to compensate for the extra weight.
Anyone know how much heavier a type r motor is than a b16?

530-677-8600...GC's #...hehe i just happened to have in on my desk infront of me...yea custom rates are extra cost...$10 extra a coil i think....i was going to run 550F/475R on my crx...
I am running some no-name coilovers on KYB AGXs and I have about a 1 finger gap in the front and about a 1.5 gap in the rear. I am also running 195/60/R14 tires. It runs good, pretty stiff, and I usually don't scrape or bang on anything.
ya thats weird. On my car I have Intrax race like 2 years old or more. my car is like slammed. it has no finger gap on 195/50r14's in the fron and like no ground clearence with mugen bumper. but the back has like a 1.5 finger gap with no engine in back. I thinnk im gonna cut 2 coils to level it out....
here's with the neuspeed sports and Koni's at half setting
The Eibach Sportlines and the Koni's bumped up 1 notch
figure that out

i use the prokit and mine sits a nut hair higher then above but i also have 17wheels and stock struts

I'm just gonna get some extra grooves in the Koni's, put the neuspeed's back on and sell the Eibach's until I can afford some tein SS or something. Anyone interested in the Eibachs?
no need for teins. get ground controls like every one said..
i'm running 500lb front and 600lbs rear..

My big problem with this is because I have bottomed out hard enough to bend the header and push back my exhuast about 1.5" The flange on the header and cat are bent and the header is now eggshaped and won't even bolt up to the cat right. We cut and welded my exhaust back together so it would all fit right with the cat flange bended back. Also the rear section of the pipe was pinched at a bend because of the impact. In summary, I need a whole new axhaust section from header back becuase of this and I'm not willing to chance it again.
Parts ruined: DC 4-2-1 header, Greddy SP cat back exhuast, SiR axles, and my oilpan isnt faring too well either.

the Neuspeed sports have been fine for me and plenty stiff in the bottoming out area.
on an EF that is that low with 205/50/15's I recommend using a wheel that has a -45 offset like the stock GSR wheel or the 99-00 si wheel. I did that and also rolled my rear lips and on the hardest of turns my 205's are clear and clean.
My setup: neuspeed sports and tokico blues

i used to be ghetto low....cut neuspeed's and stock struts...cool to be low but got annoying
but now im stock springs in front and still neuspeeds from a teg in back....not a good at handling but im broke at the moment and love the ghetto sleeper look goin on right now...
i want some h&r race and new shocks eventually.....

Well, what I'm gonna try today is putting the Neuspeeds back on, putting the Koni's all the way to the highest perch and see what that gives me. As far as wheels are concerned, I have some 97 gsr's that I'm going to put on when I get new tires (which I just ordered). That doesnt really matter anyway, because its bottoming out on straights (car hitting ground, not rubbing in wheelwell). If I ever finish this project, there will be too much money in it to ruin things because it is simply sitting too low.
