90 crx w/b18a.....when temperature drops below 30 degrees; car won't stay on....any suggestions
Wassup everyone,
Question: I have a 90 crx hf with a b18a swap. I was running a PM6 ecu, and whenever the outside temperature would drop below 30 degrees my car would start up, engine light come on, and then shut off in the morning. I would force it to rev at 3,000 rpm for a couple of minutes then it would stay on by itself. Then once the car was warmed up, I would shut it off, and restart it.........no engine light would come on for the rest of the day. Unless it sat for several hours.
K......I get a 90-91 PR4 ecu, and swap it in. Now whenever it has been under 30 degrees, and the car has sat off for several hours, upon start-up, the engine light comes on, but the car stays on, and warms up and idles normally. After warming up, I restart and the light stays off.
Whenever the temperature is over 35 degrees the engine light never comes on.
So this is my problem ..........can any of you guys relate, and does anyone have an answer......Thanks

yeah my last few cars were DA tegs...they did this too.......maybe someone can give us some info...the motor I have now came out of a 92 teg
the ecu probably froze, my 2001 vw gti 1.8t would do that if i turn it on it idles at 1500 rpm and if i even dare touch the throttle it starts choaking and turns on i have to let it hit 900rpm idle then i can slowly take off.. once the car is warm its fine... and if i take off at 900rpm but the needle is still saying cold i get like 5psi of boost rather than my 1.1 program (15psi), my ecu sits like in the engine bay which is of course outside the car im sure the chips are frozen and electronics have a hard time functioning correctly is freezing or scortching hot temps...
stupid vwdub.
stupid vwdub.
Maybe its the coolant temperature sensor? When I had my Jeep, if it was really cold outside I could make it to then end of the block and it would cut off.

haha...cool I found my old name...I finally guessed right after searching a few times...I disappeared shortly after making this post (2 weeks) cause somebody stole my rex
and I had no money to get into a honda for almost a year, not to mention I was so pissed off I didn't want to even look at another honda, so I took a break, and when I came back I forgot my name and password.
anyway
but I had figured out the problem, I had a bad ecu, it was a pm6 ecu running a b18a swap, and it was faulty on top of that.
I found a pr4 ecu, but it didn't plug in cause it was an obdI pr4 (92-93 integra)
a couple days later I was able to pick up a obd0 pr4 (90-91 integra) and it pluged right in.
I also fixed the mounting of the swap with hasport efb1 billet mounts that had just come out and a hasport shift linkage.
then one week later it was stolen

where is the coolant temp. sensor located on the motor, and how much is a new one. i also have trouble starting the car up when it is cold.

the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT) I belive is located on the thermostat housing or right in that area of the motor if I remember correctly...but that was on a b18a/b motor...wish I had pics or a diagram

Also, don't confuse the ECT for the temperature gauge sender. The temperature gauge sender has only one wire connected to it. But The ECT has a plug with two wires.
