I have an 87 Prelude SI. 5th gear went out about a month ago. Someone told me there was a permanent fix for this. Does anyone here know of this? or what the "fix" is? This is the 2nd tranny that has done this.

 

are you using new trannies or just junkyard ones?

 

Are you filling the tranny correctly? The fill hole is higher than the axel hole, so if you've replaced an axel and didn't top off the oil, there went the extra .5qt of oil that was protecting your 5th gear! Are you using GEAR OIL instead of regular oil? Isn't there a removable endcap on the 2gen ludes where you can replace the 5th gear assembly? I seem to recall hearing about that somewhere. Good Luck!
