Using my H4 bulbs as both high and low beams?
I just recently picked up some JDM style headlights for my 95 Accord. The previous headlight bulbs were 9006 for lows and 9005 for highs. Now with the new lights it's h4 for lows and h1 for highs. Is it possible to use the h4 for both low and high since that's what h4's are meant for? I was thinking of turning my high beam into a "fog light" Difficult process? Wiring diagrams? Thanks!
yes its possible...my cousin has a 95 accord with the jdm headlights and he wired up the high beams as foglights and used the h4's as low and highbeam...i dont know how he did it but i'll see if he can write some instructions down about it and get back to you...
ok..heres the deal...i just talked to my cousin and he told me you cant really wire up the high beam to the H4 because the H4 has a positive trigger to light up the filaments and the accord high beam works on a negative trigger or something like that (im not an electrical person so i dont know much about it, but i'll take his word for it since he's in his senior year of electrical engineering)...so he had to sort of rig a setup...its not really combining high beam and low beam and having a fog light but you can use it as such.
1. he took the wires from the stock harness for the low beam (harness that plugs with the 9006 bulb) and wired them over to the harness of the H4 that came with the jdm headlights. the H4 has a ground and two positive wires so there is an extra wire left when you do this.
2. he ran a positive wire to a switch (he used a fog light switch but any switch with an on/off is fine) the output of the switch goes to the extra wire on the H4. so now both the H4 power wires should be used.
3. he used H3 bulbs for fog lights and wired up the wires from the stock high beam harness to that.
H3 bulbs are usually fog lights so if you want to use them as fog lights then that will serve your purpose but im not sure how you can aim them downward since the headlight adjustment would affect the whole headlight when you try to aim them down the lowbeams will be aimed down also.
Now if you have everything wired up correctly, the low beam on the H4 will come on with the light switch, the high beam on the H4 will light up when you turn on the switch that you ran the power to, and the H3 fog lights will turn on when you turn on the high beams.
its sort of ghetto rigged but that how he did it. hope this helps

I see what you're saying, sounds good! A few questions though:
1. Does it matter which positve wire I use from the H4 harness I use for the switch?
When he did this, does the h3 bulb just plug into the high beam socket? And the wires from the high beam harness connect to what, the bulb itself or the high beam harness?
I'm not exactly educated in this kind of stuff as well, so maybe a little guidance would help
Thanks

hey...the high beam wires connect to the high beam harness that goes with the jdm headlights...and the power wires on the H4 bulbs dont matter which is which
I just got the JDM DEPO version lights also for my 5th Gen Accord. I had that same question also.
The headlight already took a **** on me! I was trying to get the existing bulb that came with it and the damn plastic where the screw goes into to hold the metal clip broke, so i have that metal clip tucked under the plastic hopefully it holds it in place....

Hey thanks for the post.
I've asked this question on mutiple posts with no answer.
It's been killing me not to be able to use the high beam on the H4s.
This seems like the best way even though its "ghetto rigged" lol
Thanks

Ok, since the high beams are using a seperate switch, could you, theoretically speaking here, take the existing high beam wires and tap it to the h4 high beam wires? This way everything would work like stock, and you could have the foglights as a seperate switch instead of the high beams. Sounds a little too good to be true, but might as well ask
