ED rally car project.
Some of us got toghether and decided to try our hand at rallying. Since we live in the Pacific NW, we thought it would be a good idea to start this project during the rainy season. We got the shell for free, but like any good project, we are behind schedule all ready. Here's the progress so far:
Pics of the shell with my old hood

At the shop...
Our team. Driver, Co-Driver and Master Fabricator/Drunky
Our Cheif Mechanic: Factory trained Honda tech.
Big thanks to AutoFX in Vic, as well as the guy in Van for the sweet deal on the a6 motors. All work has been done by us, and by god it's still got a long ways to go.

We got the car for free, but that wasn't much. 1 piece of glass on our only door, and no motor or RF suspension. Shocks cost tons, but they'll pay for themselves.
2 motors and a trans for $400. Wait till you see the cage Nick is building.

cool. I'm building a 4th gen hatch rally car as well. The difference is that my car was a driving car when I got it.
Best of luck to you. While your car is getting put together, I suggest you buy yourself your driving suit, and go co-drive for someone else. It's a great learning experience. And then you'll figure out that the cars appearance is really not important. Dings and dents are all over those cars, even the factory cars that look so great on tv, if you get up close to them...they don't look so great.

I got my driving suit 5 days ago! We got the parts for the cage from a plumbing shop, with the appropriatly thick ERW pipe. The shocks are Bilstein HD, and apparently they are the TOUGHEST shocks for rallying. Ordered the helmet too.

so what are the plans for the drivetrain? high compression D16A6? cam?
sounds like it would be a good idea to replace all the suspension bushings with polyurethane pieces.

We've got the energy kit in place, but as for performance, it's basically what we CAN get away with under the class rules. Maybe some 88-89 a1 pistons, but we have to keep that quiet.

The civic that Martini was talking about will be group 2 as well, we're in the pacific northwest as well. There is another Civic up here that will be campaigned this year hopefully as well, so hope to see you guys at some events. So there should be like 4-5 of them around here if everyone actually finishes them.
Regarding someone asking what the rallys in Canada cost--I believe it is easier to get insurance up there so it is slightly less expensive then the SCCA stuff. Check out http://www.rallybc.com for more info. There are a lot more rallys in Washington and Oregon then BC though, however...
