my car is making that vibrating kinda of wierd noise from the engine bay area between 3-4k rpms, and im assuming that ive gotten that popular header rattle. now ive searched but didnt come up with anything, so is it the actualy header that is rattling or the heatshield? could i take the heatshield off ,and dont hey have like ceramic wrap or sumthing i could use? any suggestions besides getting a new header? thanks

 

do you have a front lower tie bar installed, i know mine rattles against my header at about 2800

 

When mine started making the rattle noise, I put it on a lift. My flange on my header actually had a small crack in it. I welded it up, but within a few months it was doing it again, and Ive never fixed it again. So I bought a new header, and hopefully will install it soon, it seems like the rattle just gest louder and louder lol.

I pulled off ever single heat shield on my exhaust pipe, but it was definitely inside the exhaust manifold. All it takes is making a hole in the pipe and then sticking the welder in there and closing the hole. This will weld the inner wall to the outer wall of the header and help stop the rattle. The manifold on my car has a weld on both of the 2 pipes underneath the oil pan, and then has another weld right at the Y where the 2 pipes come together, immediately before the cat. Get yours welded in these 3 places and say goodbye to the rattle!

 

I have the same rattling, took off all the heat shields on the cat and exhaust manifold and the dam thing still rattle. Fixed it by buying another header.

 

i hate the rattle. my ITR cams make it even louder. i cant wait until i get motivated enough to buy a new header and put it on =P

 

I have a 94 GSR and I don't have any header rattles from my car...Just lucky I guess .

 

i have had it in my '95....it was internal also....luckly my buddy had a virtually new stock pipe he donated to me

 

ok so is it the heat sheild or header thats rattling? mine rattles at about 3k..just got a new jdm header so hopefully that will go away

 

i had the same prob last week ..cars completely stock though...it was a shield that bolted together right after the cat..well one of the corners the bolt together cracked so u put a hose clamp around wher it cracked , tightened it down and its gone...same rpm level when it rattled also...

question? is there any make of header that wont crack and ratle so i know what brand to get...cause buying headers frequently due to cracking and rattling dont sound to good for my pocket......

Usually it's the header. Also the heatsheild of the cat is notorious for rattling.

 

It's the header. I didn't have the cash for a good header, so I just bought a cheap one to use untill I could afford a good one. Stopped the rattle... but that was 2 years ago and I have yet to buy a decent header.

 

the dealership will want 575 for the a pipe. i'll sell you my brand new COMPTECH TIG WELDED HEADER for 400.00 you won't be sorry
