Default When you turn up the base up and

and the sound begin to distort.

#1. This is because the speakers can not handle too much base. Is this correct?

#2. If so, changing the speakers to a better one will solve this. Is this correct?

Thanks

If your system is completely stock, correct me if im wrong, but the best upgrade you could do is chnage your headunit to create a clearer sound...then start looking at speakers.

Not only will the sound be clearer it will be louder also....

I dont know much, but I think thats right

yeah if you have a stock HU definetly change that first. The factory HUs do not have a big enough preamp to power your speakers if you want them loud, thats why the speakers become distorted.

Yes, I have a stock HU. Would an amp help?

I can invest $100 on an amp with my stock unit or spend ~ $100 on a new HU. Which would you choose?

I would like to replace the HU, but.....

I would go for the aftermarket HU, no matter what shape your dash is there are trim panels that will make your HU fit. If they can make trim panels for those awful oval dash boards in ford contours i'm sure theres one for your car.

in response to the original posted questions ....yes and yes to both questions....sorta. The distortion you are hearing is a combonation of a few things. One, the speakers cannot "take or handle" whichever you prefer, the signal you are sending to them from the headunit, stock or otherwise. The reason i didnt use the term power when it comes to distortion in the speakers is bcause you can send 100 watts to a speaker (granted its within the power rating), but if that signal that has a power of 100 watts isnt a clean signal then it will not be reproduced by the speaker well. The BIG gain from getting an aftermarket headunit first before any amps or speakers is that the aftermarket amp is built with a far better technology then your stocker. Whcih in most cases, at least integras is a Pioneer BASED headunit and speakers. I am in no way saying that pioneer is a bad brand just that when you are a company such as them and you are producing a stereo for the average consumer important features dont usually get included....such as quality. Now as far as swapping the speakers out that will reproduce better sound. As for not distorting with heavy levels of bass it still will. Now if you want to add an aftermerket amp to the 6 1/2 ....usually OE in most hondas and acuras, it will reproduce the bass sound better. But these speakers are not intended for or to reproduce that level or Mhz of sound acuratly. I would if i were you, either get bass blockers, get a headunit that alllows you to select a cut off level for door speakers, or get some crossovers. Ok, enough for this long post. Sorry i get really longwinded. If you have any more Q's feel free to post um.
