A question for you ITR owners!
I have an eg hatch with a jdm gsr motor on the way. i am finished ordering all of the parts except for the clutch. I really wwant to get the type r clutch because i have found it for as low as 159.00$. My only concern is will it hold the power that i will be putting on the engine? I am going N/A and it is going to be street driven so it is not going to have to much hp's, but how much hp will the clutch hold since it is a stock clutch? Do any of you have higher horsepowers with the clutch?
Thanks And I appreciate any help that you can give me

uhmm.. how much torque do you plan on having this engine make? since we have no clue what you are planning on doing it's pretty hard to answer your question.
i think he means for a jdm itr motor
(yes, you be fine young one with chopustixu)
(yes, you be fine young one with chopustixu)
he's getting a JDM SiR (GSR) motor and is asking if an ITR clutch will "hold the power he'll be putting through the motor".
However, that is impossible to answer since no one here currently knows what he is planning on doing.
-Dave, who has a bad cold from the WTD weekend
A clutch can hold a wide range of horse power, since i said i was going n/a, you should be able to judge this....but if you are still confused, than what is the max that the type r clutch could hold?
*Also i said before that it would be street driven, so it is not going to see slicks nor any major bottom end work. Just your basic bolt ons with maybe some cams and type r pistons in the near future!

this is a funny question
do you think its safe to use a type R clutch on a setup that doesnt make as much power as an ITR?
The only reason why people were asking u questions is try to narrow down and give u a correct answer... no need to get fussy about it.
To answer your question, the ITR clutch setup will work fine on a motor that doesnt make as much power as an ITR.

Thanks for the reply, i wasnt getting "fussy" people were just asking me something that i already had posted. I should have asked whether you guys use your stock clutchs when you start to add parts. *Also you would be surprised how much power a gsr can push in a hatch, not to mention around a 10 horsepower boost due to it being jdm y0!

Actually you have still failed to answer my question. How much *torque* are you planning on making with this motor. A SiR motor with boltons can easily make more than a hype-r motor does (mine does with I/H and it's a USDM GS-R motor) so with cams, etc it'll all depend on how wild you go. Give us actual info besides vague answers like "basic bolt ons and some cams and stuff". If you plan on making 140ft-lbs at the wheels (hp will vary as it's a measure of work performed, nothing else) then I think it'd be worthwhile to upgrade.. hell I'd upgrade it before then even..
stock ITR clutch is good, but if you have the extra money just get something else. ACT clutch with HD PP or an Exedy setup since you aren't a drag racer.

Again thanks for the reply, but i am sorry i cant give you exact specs. Maybe if you could tell me what the clutch can hold up to then maybe it could answer my question. Sorry for all the confusion and i agree with the comment about the hype r!
And to ITR21 to my knowledege(and feel free to rip on me if i am wrong because i am still learning, who isnt?) wouldnt the lighter hatch mean more stress on the clutch since its putting more power to weight than the type r?
This is the last and only time i will send this post to the top, i promise i wont bug you itr owners anyomore, but some has got to know PLEASE!

I've read that honda clutches are supposed to hold 300hp.
For how long they hold, that is anyone's guess.

I would go with an aftermarket. I am not to impressed with the stock clutch. I have had problems with slipage with just a few bolt ons. Of course sometimes slipage is good. It can keep an axle from breaking. It could also cost you a race.
This is what happens when a stock ITR clutch disc fails:
About 25,000 miles revving to 9,200 rpm on different motors with between 175-200 whp. Broke on Tuesday, replaced it today. This is not the first factory clutch I had break, and I have seen about 25-30 similar breaks on customer's cars. The price is right, though. I am getting a Tilton single disc for the motor I am putting together, and it ain't gonna be cheap.

ITR's clutch will be more than enough to hold the power of gsr mothor with just basic bolt-ons and daily driving.
use your fugging brain..
Most ITR around with some basic bolt-on's still use stock itr clutch with no problem .. what do you think man. u think basic gsr motor with bolt on will make more HP than basic ITR motor with bolt ons??
