Idle question
I have noticed the engine idling at 1500 rpms @ start up and once it is warm it seems like when I come to a stop the rpms are @ 1200 for a sec then drop to 1000. I thought it might be because of the cold weather with a denser air charge making it a little lean but the O2 sensor should compensate. I don't remeber it doing that the past two winters. It could be that or the tps. I only have like 18,500 miles on it. It seems like I would get a check engine light though. I hate to take it to the dealer because they are so far away and if its the O2 sensor they will bitch about my header. I know 1000 rpms is a little high during the summer it usually sits @ 800. any input would be apprec.

I live in idaho...does the EXACT same thing but eventually settles on idling at about 800 rpm fully warm....B18C5 w/19,000+/- miles (although I am running on an Si ecu) Sounds like nothing to worry about
When you guys are on the highway for prolonged periods of time (30 mins or more), does your idle stay fairly high upon exiting the highway? When I am on the highway and exit (I always hit the first light after I exit the highway, :sigh: ), my idle hangs up above 1500 for a little bit.

Dont sweat it. Its normal... your ECU will run your engine at about 1500 rpms until the engine warms and then it will drop. You have to underatand that the only time your car will idle at 700-750 rpms is when you are warmed up and you dont have any thing on (EX A/C or head lights)
When you turn on something like AC or headlights you can watch your rpms jump up to compensate for the power loss. Go ahead and hop in your car and play with the lights and AC and windows and everything electric and see how high you can make your idle go.

Mine does the EXACT same thing. That's why I come on here today and searched this post.
I am not even sure is it due to prolonged period of time on highway, but I notice that this winter, AFTER WARM UP, if i drive my car to a certain speed and put the car in neutral, the idle will stay at 1500 rpm until the car comes to a full stop (which then drop to normal 800 rpm). You guys experience the same thing?

i have the same problem on my car with a P28 Hondata system with the IACV disconnected - goes away when the engine is warm.
p.s. check your oil

the idle will stay at 1500 rpm until the car comes to a full stop (which then drop to normal 800 rpm).
once the car has stopped the idle drops back to normal.

other stuff that bumps the idle up:
-a/c
-power steering pressure switch
-E.L.D.

I would say it's normal also. If you want your idel to drop down to 800rpm, turn your fan and radio off. Especially AC, if AC is on, idel will go up.
I also notice that if you pump the brake pedal, idel will go up as well.
Anyway, I have an abnormal situation:
Recently, my car's been acting weird at idle, it would sometimes drop down to 600rpm or even 400 rpm. Making it seems like the engine will shut off but instantly goes back up.
I just had my spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel filter and distributor caprs and rotor replace for the 30,000 mile tune-up. What's causing the problem?

wow.. 4 years? you could test it.. i didn't get 2 years out of mine.. you could raise idle.. it should be no less than 800..
you could also reset ecu as it will re-learn start up maps - not sure about idle.. after maybe 10-20 startups it will catch up.
