I was taught a long time ago that the wire type is better. Unfortunately I don't remember why now, but I have always used them. I think it had something to do with the shape of the electrode and that some of them are curved on the underside. Maybe one of the old timers will know.

How about this tool?

Description taken from jacobs electronics site:

A Jacobs Electronics exclusive! A specially made set of pliers that accurately and consistently gaps sparkplugs with the outer electrode perfectly perpendicular to the center electrode every time! Heavy duty construction - suitable for professional mechanic use! The only quick and effective way to make absolutely sure ALL of your plugs are gapped EXACTLY the same! No-slip rubber grip handles. Heavy duty construction. Will work on almost all single electrode automotive type sparkplugs!

Pliers feature quick gapping with increased accuracy from .025in. to .085 in. for any style side electrode plug. Saves time and allows for more precision parallel gaps. Accommodates long and short reach plugs.

I like how it bends the entire electrode instead of just the tip .... Has anybody used this or know how much it costs?
