Cam Gear Install Question
Im installing ITR cams and skunk 2 cam gears soon and I was wondering how hard is it to get the bolt off of the Cam Gear. I have an impact wrenchg so will I need that to get it off? Also, do I need the impact wrench for any other part of the install. I want to do the install without loosening the tensior bolt. I want to just slide one cam and gear out at a time, and keep the timing belt around the other cam gear so it doesnt move any teeth. Thanks for your help.
Hmm...we needed power tools to remove the cam gear from the cam.
As for that method of removing one at a time...never tried it. However, I can tell you that putting the timing belt back on without loosening the tensioner is a royal pain. I say loosen the belt, it's not hard to tighten back up, just make sure everything is at TDC.

How do you know how much to tighten it?? Ive just heard alot of people being 1-2 teeth off and I am worried about it... What else to do I have to remove/loosen to get to the tensior belt. I kno Dlo gsr did his without loosening the tensior bolt and his came out fine.
Use a marker to mark the teeth on your belt before you remove it...no teeth problems.
I don't remember everything on how to loosen the belt, but loosening the power steering pulley helped a bit.
You can change your cams without doing loosening the belt, but I personally find it to be a pain...and have seen people hack up their cam gears a bit when putting them back on.
If you don't have a helms manual, get one now...that will answer most of your questions and more on this.
