i need tax returns
okay a lil background....
what impendence load were you running the amp at?
Where were the signal gains set? Was the proper guage wiring and grounding used
for your setup? Was the amp A stock or B stock product?
I have a problem with blanket statements made on compaines that have produced pretty decent product in my eyes. If Sony put out Crap product as you said ( ie the quality controls just fell off) they would not be in biz much longer.
Try to find out the reason the amp failed....You might be surprised.

Guys, you can lay off. If it is the Xplode amp that says 980 or 1000 watts or whatever on it, and it is shaped like an X, it isnt his fault. around a half-dozen friends/aquaintences of mine have had their xpoodes burn out.
i have seen quite a few sony amps with this same problem at my shop, but just as any electrical product in a extreme location such as a car "they go bad". that is why they offer warranties. i had a customer come in wondering why his ppi power 4800 and 2 mtx 225ho amps stopped working, he had an unfused 10 gauge power wire running to each amp and the grounds daisychained to each other and grounded to a seat bolt. the boards on the mtx amps turned a shade of brown and the chrome on the ppi amp discolored to a brass finish over where the power supply is located. so moral of the story is the install is usually the largest cause of product to fail.

If it's under warranty, have it taken care of. If not, consider repair which may be around $100 or so. I've blown up my SoundStream Reference 500 amp about 3 times in the past 5 years (been sent back each time) and it's still playing hard!

it's weird. me and all my friends who've bought sony car audio products have all had problems. home entertainment though. they seem just fine. maybe their car audio division just sucks ***
i would tell you all if you are going to buy sony to buy it from a reputable chain store with some type of extended warranty, like best buy, good guys, or tweeter.
I used to work at best buy and those sony amps and the mp3 head units used to come back all the time, they were instant exchange which was great. if that model didn't exist anymore we gave them the comparable newer model.
IMO it is worth the extra $30 for an amp and $40 for a head unit.

I haven't had any experiece with the ES line of products so i can't comment on those.
I priase SONY (higher end) products.
Few friends have some SONY stuff, I have some SONY stuff, etc... Never heard of any problems.
As for car amps... I wouldn't have chosen SONY as 1st choice, but that's me.
Hoep your tax return brings you funds to get a replacement amp.

does the explod line have higher end stuff? if so what would you recommend?
haha thats some funny ****. Sony has seemed to go down in quality in the past 5 years - I've always bought Sony in the past so I tried out their car audio with my 1st car ( back in 94 ) and went through 3 different headunits ( 2 different models ) , 1 pair 6.5s & a POS 1 farad cap in one month. Uninstalled everything, replaced it with Alpine front to back ( cept the wires/cap ), not one problem - entire sterio has went through 3 different cars with zero problems, I in fact still have my mrv1505. Never again will I buy Sony car audio , only ES home products from now on.
Alpine in italics for those bitch about their "overpriced" products

I'm not to fond of the Xplode line up. Even though I just bought a cd player from them. But I got a 4 year extended warrenty for $7.50. I love being employeed were I get the deals.
We only got it cause it retailed for $170.00. I got the cd player, a 4 year warrenty, wire harness, deck adapter, and install for $160.00 out the door.
