Default Hella HID kit...problem

I installed my HID kit with hella ballasts and what not. Everything worked fine until one side didn't come on in the initial turning on of the lights. If i wait a few seconds leaving the lights on, then turn off the lights and then turn them back on...they both come on. I read the instructions and it says it could be the ballast safety circuit being activated, but it did it quite often tonight.

Anyone with the Hella kit have this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Peace,

Lyle

Did you ground the system correctly? Most HID ballasts have a protection so that it doesn't burn itself out (shuts off completely) if its not grounded properly.. from what I've read...

That should have nothing to do with it.

I would like to know the answer to this too. I have the Hella 4300 and I'm having a similar problem when the right blub flickers for a while, like a bad contact, before it blasts like it should. tried it with motor on and off. same effect. anyone know what's up? thanks

peace

JR

Try checking the wiring again. Same thing happened to my friend but when he redid all the wiring again, the problem was fixed.

could be water in between some of your connections. the other week, there was a storm in san francisco, and water got into my HID relay box. it arced, and shorted the internals. it worked for a little bit, on and off, than it finally went out completely. i ordered a new relay for $5 and it works perfect now . but yea, check all your connections and make sure there is nothing in the way that can be interfering with the contacts. be careful not to get shocked by them, because i have pull some fuses before tampering with the wires.

Thanks for the suggestions! I haven't messed with it today because i needed to study hardcore for my genetic engineering class...Hopefully it will work correctly after re-installing everything.

Peace,

Lyle

I did have a delay in the passenger side but it works fine just alittle slower than the drivers side.

doesn't that irritate you though? i know it would annoy the hell out of me, i love it when they flicker on at the same time. i swear hella and spw need to redisgn their HID's better, and let us send our's in so that we can get the revised models instead. i have the H4 model, and sometimes my high beams remain on after i disengage them. i have to turn off the headlights, and turn them back on in order for the high beams to turn off sometimes.

Okay...now, i'm getting irritated by this. I completely unhooked the side which was giving me a problem, and even grounded it at a different location. It still happened! But, this time I had my brother looking at the lights when I turned them on. What it does is turn on for a split second then turn off. It will turn on by waiting a few minutes then turning it off then on again. I wasn't expecting this much problem. My friend In_Vtec has the phillips kit which I had in the R for a bit, and now i wish i would've bought those {sigh}. Now i'm hoping that I don't get screwed by the store I bought them from or the company that puts the kit together.

Thanks for help!

Peace,

Lyle

just try to contact one of the HELLA/SPW dealers, and maybe they can replace it or something. my bulbs high beams went bad, so i sent them back to the person i got them from, and he got me a set of brand new bulbs.

The CATZ system I got is perfect, no delays and the light is crisp and clear and white. The first 15 seconds of warming up is beautiful though!
